We are so glad to have had Jodi as our wedding officiant. She arrived on time and was so patient while we waited for some important wedding guests to arrive. She delivered such a beautiful ceremony. We had guests ask us if she was a friend of the family because she seemed so emotionally connected to the event. We know we made the right choice!

About Music Pro provided a 5-piece band for our wedding reception and they were totally amazing, our guests were raving about how great the band was at our wedding! Gary Rich was the band leader and MC he read the room so well, he tailored the music based on the questionnaire we provided prior to the day as well as how the crowd was feeling the night of the wedding! We had a huge range of ages present (from 7 years old to early 80's) and everyone was on the dance floor. The band played a large variety of styles of music. When one of the groomsman was giving his toast and quoted a song, the band transitioned that same song into the toast as the groomsman was still speaking. It made the entire toast that much more amazing and crowd went crazy! Thank you to About Music Pro / Gary Rich and his band for an incredible evening :)

I have been a student of Jim’s for years. He is a great teacher. Very talented, fun and professional vocal coach. I have also referred Jim to my clients and friends to play at private parties, weddings and funerals. They all have been very happy with his services.

Getting an amazing band was priority numero uno for our wedding and after reading tons of reviews, I was already pretty sold on them. Once we sat down with Tiana, we were practically begging to sign a contract. We got the nine piece band for our wedding and on an epic day full of highlights, I think they take top honors. Our party simply would not have been as great without them. We weren’t really interested in doing the “traditional” wedding things – grand entrance, first dance, cake cutting, etc. and Tiana worked with us to make sure the evening was everything we envisioned, including letting the crowd dictate the flow and timeline. I think it takes an extremely professional crew who truly know their stuff to be able to take on that endeavor. They sang, they grooved, they rapped, they learned songs just for us, and they incorporated a last minute request that I made the day before the wedding. You know you have a good thing going when the oldest and youngest guests at the party are in agreement that they are “the best band ever!” But beyond the music, they are down to earth, gracious, and just seem like a fun bunch to be around – I kind of want to become a roadie now. I also know two people in the hotel business who have seen tons of weddings and they, too, think ROM is the best in the biz. If I were a bajillionaire, I would hire them to play at my house every Friday night just so I could dance by myself. Hurry up and snatch them up before they’re booked – you absolutely will not regret it.

We got married July 2013 outside in La Jolla overlooking the ocean. Marcela and her band did an incredible job playing music for the reception and the insane dance party that ensued after dinner. I could not have been happier with the combination of beautiful melodies during the reception and dance hits during the party. We had a crowd of all ages there and every single person was dancing for hours, even my 84 year old Grandfather! They played an essential role in making our wedding a night to remember and for that I am forever grateful. Timely, professional, honest, giving, flexible, accommodating, excellent.

Ron and his musicians were outstanding!! I hired them for a '40s Big Band Pary for 2 hours and did the deliver! They were very much accommodating to our residents and the staff. Very upbeat group of men who sang and danced with our residents, which made all the ladies very happy! The music was spot on and made us all feel like we really were in the 1940s. Very happy with the performance and their attitudes, absolutely one of the best!

Daniel played cello at our intimate home wedding along with another local musician. They exceeded our expectations, easily accommodating specific song requests for the ceremony then filling our reception with a lovely mix of traditional music that was lively and warm but not overpowering for our small space. Music was such an important part of our wedding and I'm so grateful Daniel was able to be there and add to atmosphere.

Jamaal did an amazing job at my wedding. We gave him a few preferred songs and he knew exactly what should be on the remainder of the mix list that has a wide variety and all complimentary to each song with great transitions. I would hire Jamaal for any event!!

We were so glad we chose this band for our wedding. They were spectacular from the solo guitar entrance music, hosting the event, to closing the dance-floor down late night. I don't know how they kept the energy up for the whole night but they played till the very end. They definitely made our big party complete! PS -- I don't like Journey but the band was so good even I sang along!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
