When I saw water on the floor by the water heater, I immediately started a search for plumbers. Bruce called me within 5 minutes of my search and asked me to send pictures of the water heater so that he could get an idea of the problem. There was serious leaking and corrosion on the top and rusty seams on the sides. He spent around 30 minutes on the phone walking me thru the directions on how to shut everything down to avoid the danger of bursting or increased leakage. He came the next morning at the time scheduled and installed a new water heater, water and gas lines and water valve. I was extremely happy with the service, the response the professionalism, price and the attention to detail. When emergency issues like this occur, it helps when you have someone who you can trust to help you get thru it all and makes sure everything is ok, from the first call to the completion of the job, Bruce was great in all ways. I highly recommend him when you need quick, trustworthy and efficient service.

My water heater was out of hot water last week. I have called at least 5 plumbers, all of them suggested not worth to fix it and need to install new furnace. it will cost me more money to buy new one. I have contacted Juan and he came to my house next day with the parts he bought and he fixed water heater immediately. I highly recommend him. He is very efficient and experienced and honest guy.

Frank came out the same day. We were told by our water heater company that a part was not working yet when he installed it, he noticed that it was another issue. He agreed to send me an invoice so we could speak with the realtor about reimbursement since their company installed a valve incorrectly. We appreciated Frank’s care and knowledge.

I had a leak under my kitchen sink from a former plumber who installed the sink and couldn't get it to stop leaking... until I called Ocho plumbing it was fixed in ten minutes. I have also used their services to replace a water heater, and even remove an old broken washer and install a new one.

Albert is awesome. He is a perfectionist with unmatched work ethic. He provides the best service, prices, and flexibility that I have EVER experienced with a plumber. His prices are very competitive and don’t be surprised if he comes over to quote and is ready to tackle the job right on the spot. Originally we just hired him to in stall a water heater but since he has installed 3 toilets, 1 tub, replaced all fixtures in showers and all valves. So it is no surprise that I would say yes I would hire Albert again and refer him to anyone that needs a plumber.

Isidrio is the BEST plumber (and tech) I've worked with. He was very professional, prompt, clean, and offered a very fair price. I've used him to install my water heater, fix a bathroom faucet leak, and he just remodeled by bathroom. It's hard to find people who are not just good at their job but who are also honest. I would recommend Isidrio for any job.

James was FANTASTIC! Very knowledgeable and straight forward. He spent time educating me about how to perform maintenance on our new water heater in order to prolong its life. He also told me about how to keep the angle stops for the faucets inside. He wants to save his customers costly repairs...WHO DOES THAT? NO ONE! Except James...he does. OUTSTANDING! I WILL definitely without question use him for ANY plumbing needs AND I will HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. Thanks James...you were GREAT!

The plumber was on time and found our gas leak in a matter of minutes. Before we called we were worried that there might be an explosion but Prudential Plumbing reminded us how to turn off the main gas valve. We waited in the driveway until the technician got there–around thirty minutes after I hung up the phone (paranoid I know.) The leak was coming from one of the holes Jim dug (that’s our dog.) Anyway, Prudential installed a new gas pipe outside of Jim’s play area in a single day. Additionally, they relit our pilots so we didn’t have to. Their price seemed fair with the amount of work needed. The plumber met our expectations–he thoroughly explained the work and what to expect. Overall, I can only think of positives when describing their service. I can definitely recommend Prudential Plumbing.

We had just bought a new house and wanted to renovate a bedroom and bathroom that had not been permitted by the previous owner. We hired Ronald Butler and his crew because out of all the contractors we interviewed, he seemed the most knowledgeable and apt to delivering the services we were looking for. From the outset of the renovation, it was clear that our new home was going to need much more work than we anticipated. The discoveries we made when opening up walls, prompted us to change our scope of work. We were now facing new electrical, plumbing, foundation, roofing, and flooring among other things. My wife and I were nervous about the changes because of the financial ramifications, and with two small children, the impact it will have on our living conditions for the next several months. Fortunately for us, we found the right contractor. Ronald's no nonsense advice, professional guidance and expert workmanship has made this process a lot more manageable than we thought. The project included in addition to the aforementioned scope: new floor plan, new HVAC, new tankless water heater, high efficiency appliances for a new kitchen, solar tubes, new electrical sub-panels, two new bathrooms, with new tub, all new fixtures, toilets and sinks, new laundry room, energy efficient recessed lighting throughout the house, new copper piping, gas piping, new electrical conductors, recepticles and switches, new windows, interior and exterior doors, new drywall and paint, new insulation, and a new 400 square foot deck. There were many challenges throughout this project, and Ronald and his crew met and overcame each one in a timely fashion, with courtesy and professional tact. My wife and I feel very fortunate to have found Ronald. He has not only delivered us a completely renovated home, that meets all of our contemporary criteria with all the new energy efficient home options, but he has also given us peace of mind and security for us and our children in an ideal home for many years to come. ....photos coming soon.

World's most inconvenient plumbing problems - no hot water! Jesus responded promptly and came right over. We made a plan for him to come on Sunday - Father's Day - and install a new water heater. He was on time, thorough, cleaned everything up and charged a very fair price. I will definitely recommend J Jesus Aguilera Plumbing to friends and will use him for my next job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
