Calvan Christ is a bass guitarist and educator with over two decades of performance experience, and 10+ years experience as a music instructor and mentor. Calvan was a student of the jazz studies program at the University of Oregon, and he enjoys studying, playing, and teaching all styles of music from jazz standards to modern progressive metal and everything in between. He currently plays in bands local to San Diego, CA, and is available for one-on-one mentoring and lessons on bass guitar and guitar. Calvan works with all skill levels from beginner to advanced players of all ages that want to improve technique and/or learn music theory and song writing. Lessons are approached from the ground up, and are designed to help players be able to jam with friends immediately, as well as learn the foundations of music theory and utilize them in everyday playing. For advanced players, there is more emphasis on complex music theory concepts and advanced playing techniques.

The theory lessons was adapted to my level of knowledge. To have a teacher that is also a bass player worked really well. Since I'm from Sweden, I was a bit afraid that different semantics would give me a hard time, but that was addressed properly, and was never an issue. The flow of the lessons was perfect, with theory and practice in a good mix. I would highly recommend Calvan, if you want to learn more about the fundamentals of music, especially if you are a fellow bass player.

Rates are reduced to $50/hr when you pre-pay for a package of 4 lessons or more!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
All new students are given a FREE 30 trial lesson to meet and greet, evaluate current skill level, and form a plan of action. Lesson plans are structured from the ground up and are customized to each student’s ability.
