Amazing!! Very professional, knowledgeable, time efficient, and true artists in their trade! I highly recommend Plush to anyone looking for an on-site make-up artist or hair stylist. With their on-site services they helped take the stress out of extra travel in a city I'm not familiar with for my destination elopement. I felt like a VIP on my special day with them showing up with all of the equipment needed, from the chair to bobby pins, to turn my hotel room into a VIP dressing room! Communication with them for planning was professional and up to date using text and email. My experience with Plush was outstanding!

Lily did my hair for my wedding and it was absolutely beautiful! I am a super picky person and I kept bothering her about the way I wanted my hair. She put up with my craziness that morning and did everything I asked her to and I love how it turned out! I usually have so much bad luck with hairstylists, so I was so thankful for Lily that day. -Bridezilla, Michelle

I was told by another stylist that I had difficult hair and shouldn't expect anything but packed frizz and lots of hairspray. I spent over 2 hours in the shower slathering conditioner on the tangles the other stylist created, I thought I was doomed to have ugly hair for the rest of my life. Along came Vanessa. She was wonderful and easy to work with. She created the exact look I wanted for my wedding (down, with soft curls), had a calming personality, and made sure everyone in my wedding party was happy with their hair before she left. I could barely feel her working on my hair, which i find amazing because so many stylists resort to yanking and pushing through my natural curls, leaving my scalp feeling taut and raw. With Vanessa, my hair felt light and looked feminine. My hair held its curls through the evening, despite the afternoon heat and night full of dancing. I was shocked i didn't have any frizz, the reason why I almost always wear my hair in a tight braid. I received compliments from guests all night and the icing on the cake was when I returned home to wash my hair. My hair was easy to dismantle and required only a simple wash. I look forward to hiring Vanessa again for my anniversary photos next year.

I don't even know where to begin, if I could give Sarah 100+ stars I would! She was amazing and so professional. She came to my rescue three weeks before my wedding after the girl I hired totally put me on the back burner. Sarah was there for me and made me her number one priority. Not only did she come to my rescue, she also accommodated my party of 10, yes 10. She made sure she had two other makeup/stylists to get the job done. They were all equally as amazing! She made me her number one priority, came to my house for a free makeup/hair trial that was absolutely gorgeous. She kept in contact, gave me options and was very organized prior to the wedding. On the day of the wedding, 8/20/2016, she was early, she and the other girls took such good care of my wedding party. The stylists fit right in, personable and had a great time while doing a great job. Everyone was so beautiful, I felt glamorous on my wedding day. She made everything perfect! Not only is Sarah an amazing makeup artist and stylist, she has a heart of gold and I would recommend her to anyone that wants to feel/look amazing on their wedding day!

Natalie is so much more than the stylist for my two events. In the first picture was my elopement, and in the second and third the big family wedding. She is such a joy to work with, and helps every girl to feel beautiful. My mother felt amazing, which caused pure joy. I truly loved the many hours I spent with Natalie. She is detailed and will transform you in ways you never imagined.

This educated and experienced professional gets the job done efficiently and, oh so pleasantly. Cost-effective and resourceful, don’t let the $100.00 an hour scare you. Whether you’re a teen going back to school or me, a young 60 year-old who recently retired, Ms. Rosson nails your look. I considered an image consultant after finishing two career fields, military and law-enforcement, where I wore a uniform. I didn’t need to think about clothing and, so, never placed much time or energy into shopping. I watched TLC’s What Not to Wear and wished someone would submit me; I needed a transformation. Jennifer, by the way, worked with Stacy London and produces that caliber of client results. Jennifer came to my home after I completed a couple of short questionnaires. We, literally, went through my closet; I quickly discarded the cast-offs. I felt better already! Ms. Rosson maintains a contract with the Fashion Valley mall merchants who pay her fees for the first two hours of shopping. What a win-win-win set up! Between Banana Republic and Ann Taylor Loft (my go-to stores), we completed this evolution in two hours. I now own a dynamite fall wardrobe for an upcoming cruise of the Northeastern seaboard. However, all mix and match pieces and layers will serve me beautifully back here in San Diego. I have good taste, but constructing a real wardrobe including accessories needs vision and effort. Let this fashion stylist get you on the right track. I wished I had done this sooner.

I was super happy how the makeup and hair turned out on my wedding day! She tailored it to fit our comfort level since I like a simpler makeup style. Months leading up to the wedding day she would ask for possible hair styles my bridesmaids would like and gave examples of what she could do. Her organization and attention to detail was a relief among all the wedding planning stress. Kim and crew were very professional and easy to talk to when asking for slight changes on either hair or makeup on the day of. My MIL didn't want heat applied to her hair but she wanted a curly do, and Kim and crew were able to complete a beautiful look with the given limitations of no curling iron. It turned out beautiful and made my MIL excited with her finished look. With Kim's great personality and sense of humor, my bridesmaids and I were at ease on the big day while had a blast getting ready. Kim will definitely be my go-to make up artist and hair stylist for future photo shoots! Thank you for the beautiful makeup and hair style for my big day!!

Emma is extremely professional and is a true fashion expert! She helped me pair existing items in my closet that I would never think of myself and encouraged me to wear certain things that will accentuate my body type. She's super fun to work with and has a million ideas to share. Our shopping trips have been very successful. I would recommend Emma in a heart beat! Hopefully she will be my stylist for life!

Needed to get my hair washed blow dried and trimmed, called EVERYWHERE, everybody was booked out. I called Brooks hair therapy and Keyta was able to fit me right in. She didn't rush, she took her time and knew exactly what I wanted. She educated me on hair treatment and what I should be doing to maintain healthy hair growth. I loved my experience and will defenitley be back. If you want a stylist that treats you like family and makes your hair #1 priority then this is the place to go. Thanks again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

  • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
  • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
  • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
  • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
  • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
  • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
  • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
