Jo Ann was a great help to me when I was fresh out of college back in 2009. She helped me over several weeks in writing my first real resume. Her help gave me confidence; seeing all my accomplishments neatly organized on 2 pages gave me the strength to apply myself to many opportunities and helped me to create my first job at a local health food store as their marketing director. Jo Ann will be your best cheerleader! She is so supportive and so good at what she does. I am the kind of person that doesn't take criticisms very well, even if constructive, but Jo Ann had a wonderful way of communicating that helped me to achieve my goals without making me feel bad about myself. I have only good things to say about her. We did the resume reviews on the phone and it worked great. I still use the resumes she helped me write today as a template that I can customize for specific jobs needs. She gave me the practical knowledge I had needed in school. The foundational skills she taught me have helped me in recent years get interviews and jobs for highly competitive positions. I can't say enough good things about Jo Ann, I am forever grateful for her support.

Charlie was very prompt on responding to my needs and was able to paint a picture of what I do in my daily life. He updated me on his progress and was great on communicating with me. The fact that he is in the same field as I am (a teacher) and his wife is also a special education teacher gave him the upper hand on why I chose him. I am horrible at writing resumes and cover letters, and Charlie did a wonderful job at editing and helping mine. Unfortunately, there were a few unnecessary words, but nothing small but small tweaks. Thank you, Charlie! He made my application process go a lot faster.

Pete was very nice and professsional. He was flexible and easy with coordinating a meeting time and place working with our busy schedule. He definitely helped our daughter with her Spanish 2 class and finishing strong in her Spanish final.

Susan is great to work with. She listens well, is patient and works to incorporate your ideas into the resume. Another thing I like about her is that she has a way of stating things that is catchy and fresh rather than the typically sterile "corporate" manner of summarizing one's work history. This was especially helpful in my case, because my employment history is choppy and I am recently getting back into the professional workforce after a long layoff.

I have been writing for years, and this allows me to write flexibly based on subject matter. My background in fiction writing means that I can write non-fiction from a variety of perspectives, in a myriad of voices, and for diverse purposes. My love of reading, and passion for storytelling, mixed with an interest in marketing means that I can edit fiction from the perspective of a reader, with respect to the writer's process, and explain the relationship between presentation of the story and the reader's perspective to the writer. This combination and holistic approach to editing can help turn a good story great. My familiarity with fiction editing means that I can edit articles, essays, and assorted non-fiction works and shorter fiction with rapid speed that also does not take away from the quality of thought and attention to detail. Whatever you need written, I can write. Whatever you need me to edit, I can hone. My goal is to work with my clients to realize their vision.

Like a normal copywriter only funnier, smarter, faster, and more fun to work with.

I am a published author. My original book was over 3000 pages so I had to cut it down to a series. I have two books out and working on the third one (all from the original book.) I find more content each time I edit so I suspect a long series. I have always had a passion for writing and can usually write 'out of nowhere' which means I can take an idea and run with it. I am best with long papers but that doesn't mean I can't help with short ones. I am fluent in Spanish so I can translate documents or make new ones from scratch. I have also edited other author's work for compensation. I am also well versed in Photoshop if you have graphic design needs for your documents. I have done many brochures, manuals, etc. in my career and I find art is just as fun as writing.

I am a retired guidance counselor. My doctorate is published in (ERIC) Educational Research Instruction Center. I have always loved writing and I have helped many of my friends edit their papers. I provide a small network of students from a nearby college with editing services. I find that the topics are interesting and I enjoy helping them present their work in a correct format and interesting style. However, I must confess that I always learn something when I read, and that follows that I learn interesting things when I edit, as well.

Writing resumes, cover letters, buisness and grant proposals, etc. Telecommunications. Organized, friendly, excellent written and communication skiills.

I offer 10 years of experience in creating original, unique, quality content. I understand the importance of constant quality content. The difference between good copy and bad copy can be detrimental when it comes to conversions, leads, engagement and ranking in search engines. Good copy takes time, and sometimes research, to craft. My job is to make you and your company shine through words. Why have low-quality web or blog content when you don't have to? I believe every company has a good story, and it shouldn't be masked by bad grammar and hard-to-read copy. Specialties: - Content curation - Website copywriting - SEO content writing - Blogging - Article writing - Email marketing - Proofreading and editing - Revisions / Rewrites - Creative copywriting - Manuscript evaluation - Biographical/Personal statement development - Resume writing

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
