Dave is more than outstanding. Not only is he professional, he can also think on this feet to resolve a very difficult door issues that we had for a long time. We live in a high end home and had 2 contractors work on the problem Each improved the situation slightly but the cause of the problem was never truly understood until Dave came along. One reputable door company even tried to sell me a new door. Initially, I was extremely wary of using someone from Thumbtack as there was no way to check credentials and bona fide references. Dave has certainly surprised us on the upside. He is cost conscious for his clients and does not recommend a more expensive solution if a cheaper one can be had. I watched Dave work the entire 2 hours he was here. He spent a great deal of time troubleshooting and then came up with a game plan that we both agreed would be ideal. He's a hard worker and an intelligent one at that. In the future, I will call on Dave to do maintenance work on our home without the slightest reservation. Ting P.

Raul is a gem! He can do pretty much anything. Beyond flooring, he is a master craftsman when it comes to carpentry. And he paints, too. We bought a new home and found wonderful engineered hardwood floors we wanted installed. We needed an affordable option and a lot of the big name places charge and arm and a leg for installation. Raul has no real overhead and was a very cost effective option. But have no fear: he is amazing! We watched him work and his attention to detail was impressive. We had a different company demo out the existing tile floors in a section of the house where we wanted hardwood. The tile was originally installed wrong (cemented to cement slab) and the removal damaged the slab quite a bit. Raul did a great job of repairing that and prepping it for the new floors. We had planned to do the baseboards ourselves, to save money, but we ended up asking Raul to do it. We liked him so much, we soon had him demoing out an awkward TV nook the prior owners had built. He fixed that up beautifully. He will be the one to build our new mantel once we are ready. He is friendly, honest, courteous, cleans up after himself and clearly cares about his work. If there is a downside, it's that he works alone. So if your project is large or you need to stick to a timeline, he might not work well for you. But he will give you an honest estimate for how long it will take him (and then he will beat that estimate!). In short, we are quite fond of Raul and would hire him to do just about anything!

Every now and then you come across someone like Barry. Some who values the craft more than the pay. Someone who goes beyond the call of duty. Someone who’s been around in the industry long enough not to make any mistakes. And when you find them, you know you need to cling on to them. The best way to describe Barry is; if he were a doctor, he’d have been a surgeon general at Stanford by now. Or if he were a judge, he’d have likely been our Chief Justice. Barry took on the painting job at my home and then went on to do everything from fixing baseboards to finally fitting the curtain rods and our sliding closet doors. Fanatically obsessed with eliminating imperfections, advising the best solutions and guiding a new homeowner with the right decisions I probably saved several thousand dollars that could have been wasted due to naïve first-time owner decisions. The man completes work at magnitudes higher pace that most other people. Barry is not for the homeowner who needs it very cheap. And yet he is not expensive. Honest in everything, you’ll get a daily or weekly timesheet of just about every work he has done. It was accurate to the point that by the final settlement I didn’t care to read the finer calculations. I knew it was right. People who are passionate and skilled at their jobs should get the highest honor in our society. They set the standards for us to follow. Barry represents that breed. I am going to have dinner at home after we move and Barry is going be the guest of honor. Thank you Barry. I learned and thoroughly enjoyed working with you.

Kirk and his team performed an interior remodel and a new garage build for my house from January 2011 to July 2011. I am satisfied with Kirk’s work. He is very experienced in new constructions and remodels. He did a very good job for a very good price. Kirk also gave me lots of free extras at his expense. In March 2010 I purchased a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom house in Union City, California. The house was in good structural condition, but as a foreclosured unit, it needed some rehabilitation. The original detached garage was in poor condition; it was badly damaged by termites and water. My intent was to have the detached garage demolished and completely rebuilt from the ground up. I planned on doing interior renovation at a later time. I found Kirk from craigslist and he had a link to his Thumbtack page. I called him and he came by to give me an estimate. He said he could give me a really good deal on a new garage and do an interior remodel for a little more than what I would have paid for the garage alone. Kirk was really enthusiastic about doing my job, much more so than the other contractors I had come to give me a bid. Kirk also had very good ideas about modernizing the interior. He suggested a bar counter between my kitchen and dining area. He would also turn my empty utility rooms into a master bedroom and master bathroom. And he wanted to create a laundry machine closet. Kirk had an architect draw the construction plans; his architect did a really nice job. He submitted it to the city as part of the permit application process. I wanted the work done with all permits so everything would be by the book. It would also help should I decide to sell the house at a later date. Kirk started out on the interior work first. He demolished the old kitchen and utility room. He built a new kitchen, a master bedroom, a master bathroom, a laundry machine closet, and a small coat closet by the front door. Kirk said he could also do a couple more things to the interior. He would do the labor for cheap if I paid for the materials. So I agreed and Kirk also replaced my front door, front window, and sliding glass door. He also remodeled my fireplace and fixed a bunch of broken things in my original bathroom. Kirk also completely rewired the house. The original wiring was a dangerous mess, a potential fire hazard. The interior work was completed towards the end of April 2011 and all the work was approved by the city inspector. It looked really nice. I received many compliments from friends and family. I am fairly picky with details and I did notice a couple flaws with fit and finish. I pointed out them out to Kirk. He and his workers did fix them. The garage work started immediately afterwards. The old garage was not worth saving so it was demolished and hauled away. The original foundation was unusable. So Kirk jackhammered it out. Kirk poured a new heavy-duty foundation onto an extensive frame of rebar. He tied it into the house foundation. Then he framed the new oversized 510 square foot garage. Kirk added a storage attic with a pull-down ladder. Kirk also poured a new driveway that looked excellent. Kirk added a 50 amp subpanel to the garage. He also gave me a bunch of free extras like wall insulation. Kirk also used roof panels coated with an aluminum heat reflective substance. The garage was completed by the end of July 2011. It looked really nice. Like the interior, I also received compliments from friends and family. The above garage attic storage with the pull-down ladder was really useful. The garage also passed city inspection. There were also a few issues with fit and finish in the garage. Kirk fixed the problems that I pointed out. While the garage was being built, Kirk also repaired my patio awning and side perimeter fence. He did an excellent job on them. One lady even drove by, stopped, and complimented on how nice the outside looks. I am overall satisfied with Kirk’s work. He really transformed my house. Since everything was done with permits, I now have a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house on county and city records. If you want to see his work on my house, ask Kirk to give you my phone number.

I highly recommend Fredy for any of your handyman needs. I hired him for a small drywall project but i could see he had many skills so I had him to numerous projects: wood floor sanding and staining, crown moulding and baseboard install, framing, wallpaper, plumbing, welding, tile repair, painting, furniture building, building a fence, and finish carpentry. I am probably missing some things! I worked with numerous other tradesman before I found Fredy on Thumbtack, and I found the quality and reliability of others slipped over time, but not Fredy! He continued to maintain a high level of customer service throughout the numerous projects. He always asks if I'm happy, and replies by saying "I'm not happy if you're not happy!" And I could tell he meant it. I also found his level of ethics to be very high and his pricing very fair. He is an upbeat personality which is also a pleasure to work with. I will continue to use Fredy for all my handyman needs in my home and business.

Tom's company has painted the outside of our home, removed our popcorn ceiling, painted and textured the ceiling, installed crown molding, installed a dishwasher, and repaired some plumbing. The jobs were all well done. He was always on schedule, the quoted price was what we paid, and his employees were professionals. He is a kind and honest man who will give you a fair price.

In my profession (Hotel General Manager), I have worked with many contractors in building hotels which were shady, dogmatic, lazy and came and went as they pleased. And now looking back at those experiences, I wish today I would have had John as the main contractor. His work ethics, time management, communication, tenacity at the job, fair price point, genuine care for me as a customer were not only visible during the job but resonate in my mind and hear still today. Everyday I walk into my warehouse and I look at the job he completed (stair case) it brings a smile to my face and a pep in my step. The wood work he completed breaths and sings excellence and heart! Thank you John for restoring my faith in contractors.... there are still men out their that care for the craftsmanship that they do. You have a true talent and art that many others need to try. And your personality and warm heart are icing on the cake. As I stated to you.... my next building (construction job) has your name all over it! Well done....! Bethinketh Co. places our seal of approval on your amazing work!

Enrique, of Jorge's Cabinets & Moulding was GREAT! He was on time to meet me for the initial estimate as well as the day he started the job.Enrique was personable and very experienced in at what he does.I had ordered crown moulding for the job. Unfortunately I didn't order enough so he wasn't able to finish it.He came back 2 days later and got it done. .What really impressed me about Enrique was that even though I messed up the order,he wouldn't take the money until the job was complete.
