Most important is that my Standard Poodle Kahlua loves her. She looks beautiful when groomed which is also key. I love that she does not have to be around other dogs at a salon. Mobile grooming by Pamela is great. Mary Pat Power

This was the first time I have used a mobile groomer. I request her services for my son's dogs because he has not been able to groom them himself because of his fight with cancer. Winnie's Wagon Mobile Spa was wonderful! Both dogs loved her and were so happy being pampered!

I'm so glad I hired Pacific Grooming mobile. Since it was my kitty's first grooming I wanted to be relaxing, and Sandy made it possible. When I went to pick my cat from the van it seem so relaxed and clean. Sandy also took the time to email me some tips in how to keep my cat and apt. flea free. It was so nice to have my pet's grooming done right outside my home, one on one. I loved the experience and will definitely hire Pacific Grooming Pet Salon again.....:)

I have a very anxious Chihuahua that is difficult to work with. Kelly took the time to help him calm down and get used to her. She is very patient and kind, giving me tips on how to help him get better with her. All she did for him this time was cut his nails which is why I needed her, he needs to get used to her. She also groomed my other Chihuahua, who is now so beautiful. I would definitely recommend Kelly to anyone who has a special needs puppy.

I hired max to board and train my labrador retriever, Jack. Jack was awful on the leash and I didnt have the time to teach him even basic commands. Max worked on leash walking, taught my dog how to sit, stay, down, come, heel, side, and then taught me how to keep him from becoming untrained. Thank you Max, you truly helped me and Jack.

Jennifer Martinez is amazing, I've had the chance to experience seeing Jennifer work. I can tell you one thing for sure she will show your dog obedience, who's in charge , and how to interact with your pet . She showed me how my attitude around my pet can change my pets feelings and attitude as well , I have gotten very nervous when big dogs would pass while walking my dog I have gotten very nervous and tense and she told me to relax and trust my dog as well after being around a big dog I calmed down as well as my dog , the training Jennifer show is with a passion. Jennifer is an amazing person to trust and work with .

About

I am able to calm the excited dog but at the same time able to utilize the excitement to get results. I offer leash training, basic commands (sit, lay, paw), and some advanced, such as stay, crawl and jump (all depending on the dog, of course). Food aggression, dog aggression, even people aggression are all fixable with the right handler. A very important part of my training is making sure you as the owner are able to be consistent and firm and have full respect from your fur baby. In the words of Cesar Millan, "be the pack leader".

About

I work on dogs on how to do things for you. I'll give you a clue using your voice, including a very high and loud tone and pitch, tone and word that you mean it. That is what owner's should do according to Jeremy Throckmorton. He works with Victoria Stilwell.

About

I train dogs in obedience, personal protection, tricks, etc. I also teach people how to train and manage their dogs. I also do a dog show at 3rd St. Promenade with 4 dogs.

About

I can help with walking your dogs or even start teaching them the basic tricks, like sit, walk on a leash, etc. I have experience with various breeds of dogs. I have even walked wolves and wolf dogs.

About

If you want your dog to have the best walk of their life, I am their girl! I have always had a heart for animals since I was young! This is a fun way to spend time with doggies each day, and I will walk them exactly the way you prefer!

About

Dogs love me and come up to me all the time. That is my passion. I have taken good care of them through feeding, watering, walking and playing with them. In my past, I washed dogs as a career and soothed them when they are scared.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
