I had Greenside Carpet come to clean our carpet and floor tile grout. They did a phenomenal job. So courteous, friendly, and prompt. Completed the job and charged exactly what they originally quoted (which was $25-$100 less than quotes from other companies). I will be recommending Greenside to my friends, and neighbors. No doubt I will hire Greenside again. I'm a happy customer :-)

I was extremely pleased with the service I received fromPatriot Floor Care! I would recommend Scott Hoage to absolutely anyone in need of carpet or upholstery cleaning. My sofa and love seat were nearly murdered by my 3 year old and 18 month old daughters, but Scott worked his magic and had them looking brand new! Scott was professional, courteous, quick and his prices were very reasonable. Again, I highly recommend Patriot Floor Care!

Ed and his crew cleaned the carpet, waxed floors and washed windows at our youth center. I told him I had to leave at 5pm. I was very impressed by his respect for my schedule and press to do a great job in the time available. They didn't waste any time getting started and pushing without stopping. They did a great job. Carpet is fresh and clean and barely had water left since they sucked it out. They had all the equipment needed so was great not having to worry about that. We were ready to go the next day. Thanks Ed and Team. Till next time!

I'm a terrible housekeeper, but my parents were coming to stay with me for a few weeks. I need professional help! I've never hired a housekeeper before and I had a great experience with Rebecca. She was very nice, showed up right on time, and did a detailed cleaning of my whole first floor. It now makes my second floor look like crud. And she didn't even mention how bad a state it was in. (And trust me, it was bad.) The whole house smelled great and she was able to get the tub clean in a way I don't think it's ever been. I would definitely hire her again!

Kevin Ghazarian worked with me on a variety of prominent projects at my home. In all aspects from budgeting, design, planning and organization of the construction schedule, he was a tremendous asset. On each home improvement he displayed exceptional qualities of creative-problem solving, fortitude as a leader and task-master and attention to detail in design and craftsmanship. I am very pleased on how well the projects turned out, which is due largely to his professional contributions. Highlights of projects are described as follows: 1. Interior painting of several rooms and kitchen. The design motif was a traditional Tuscani color scheme. The original and uniquely beautiful architectural elements such as the curved kitchen cabinets, wordolf walls, crown mouldings, bay windows and fire place mantel pieces were individually painted separate colors. This was challenging in its multi color design and tedious attention to painting the details. In two rooms alone there were 15 different colors used, all of which had to be the perfect color and hue. 2. Installation of wood floors. A beautiful distressed antique wood flooring was installed in the kitchen, pantry, bathroom and large family room. This involved subfloor demolition, removal and replacement, and the detailed installation of wood flooring and moulding. The hard, back breaking work required a number of workers managed by Kevin. As a result, the work flow was systematically optimized and “driven” until the project’s completion. Kevin was a relentless task master and has many skills as a talented worker. 3. Electrical rewiring of bathroom and hallway. The old wiring was faulty and insufficient and new wiring was pulled and replaced. All ceiling light fixtures, electrical outlets and switches were chosen and installed. A 3 way switch system was a necessity and was devised quickly and installed correctly to code by Kevin. This all required the knowledge and skill of a trained electrician. 4. Construction of exterior deck. This project involved much post production planning and design. “Trek” decking materials, sub deck foundations, metal piers, treated lumber of all sizes, and all the special screws and bolts needed to be estimated and purchased for this large construction project. Unlike a simple rectangular shape, this deck was complex in design with multiple angles, levels and steps. Cutting perfect angles and lengths of Trek decking were a necessity in order for this deck to turn out as provocative and beautiful as it did.

Sam is a very hard worker. He stained my very old wood floors and they turned out beautifully. It took him longer than expected, but he did keep working at it until I was satisfied. He also did excellent electrical work!

I'm glad the original contractor (Joe) never showed up for the job 8am per appointment (we cleared the garage and put everything in the yard out in the open ready foe Joe. You can just image how frustrated we were when the contractor did not show up or even call by 4pm). Mario from Creative responded to my online search and start working that very evening. Mario went the extra mile preparing before applying the epoxy paint on the garage floor. It was all completed the very next day. First class workmanship. While we waiting for the floor to dry. We already scheduled for Mario to come back next week to start working on the driveway. Two thumbs up highly recommended. D 9/9/2016

Steve responded quickly to my inquiry regarding putting in a wall mounted dog door. He arrived on the designated day and time; even arriving a few minutes early. He professionally went to work installing my very expensive “Hale” dog door. He protected my kitchen nook floor and outside area where work was to done. His attention to detail and cleanup was great. The dog door needed to be placed under a window, and he was able, with confidence, adjust electrical wires in order to accommodate the door. He is very friendly and his price for this project was very reasonable. I will definitely use him again for other projects that I need done. I am very happy with his work. My photo of this door came out horizontal, instead of vertical, but hopefully it shows how well Steve installed my double wall Hale dog door.

Redd did a great job on our wood floor! When we pulled up the old carpet and saw the condition of the 70 year old wood floor underneath we thought it had no chance of being reconditioned. But Redd came in repaired all the damaged boards and sanded the entire floor and it looks like a brand new floor! Amazing work, I highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again in the future!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
