Introduction: Hi, I'm an experienced concert violinist and teacher. I've taught privately for 30 years, and also served on university faculties as a violin instructor. I work with students of all ages and levels, and I have lots of experience preparing students for school auditions and concerts, youth orchestra auditions and All-State tryouts. I'm currently offering lessons both live and online.

I was a student with Paul for seven years, from the 6th grade until the week I left Irvine to go to college. For all those years, Paul has always been a patient, kind, and helpful teacher.
Usually, in a lesson, I'd first play a scale and Paul would give me comments to correct my technique (e.g. if my intonation was off, if my bowing technique had some issue, etc.). Then, I'd usually play whichever piece I had been working on throughout the week once through, and then Paul would give me feedback and we'd go over certain sections that needed more work in detail.
Paul is great teacher because he would always point out my mistakes or places where my technique was weak, which was helpful so that I could improve, and he always did so in a way that was kind and never made me feel bad about how I was playing. He was also always so helpful in answering any questions I had or helping me prepare for auditions. One time, I had an audition that I had forgotten about until a few days before, and I showed up to my lesson a bit panicked because I had nothing prepared for it. Paul helped me select and learn a piece that was easy enough for me to prepare in time but also impressive enough for the audition, and I left that lesson a lot calmer than I was when I went in.
On top of all this, Paul is also just an excellent musician in his own right. As of the last time I was his student, he was the co-concertmaster of Pacific Symphony and also played in the pit orchestra for the Pageant of the Masters every summer. Just being regularly exposed to his playing and being able to observe his technique in lessons really helped me improve a lot as a musician, I believe.
I have sincerely enjoyed every lesson I've ever had with Paul, and I feel that these lessons have also greatly improved my violin-playing. My parents and I have already recommended Paul as a teacher to various family friends in the past. I recommend him here again with absolutely no reservations!

Mr. Manaster has been teaching me violin for almost 10 years. I started learning violin with him. He is a wonderful violinist and teacher. Paul is not only a great violinist but also a great tutor for teaching violin. My 11-year old daughter is one of his students, and Paul teaches children of many ages. He has a sharp insight to what my daughter needs to improve and always passes this information to her in a kind way. The teaching and communication goes smooth for both in person and online (during this pandemic event) class. My daughter has made obvious progress since starting to learn violin from Paul. We feel so fortunate to have Paul's guidance for my daughter's violin class.
