- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My grandmother. When I was younger my nana lived in a seniors complex in riverside. They had a salon but only one stylist. I often wondered how that one person could work seven days and do hair for the over 200+ residents. It was then my grandmother told me that she was only there one day a week and everyone was on a wait list that spanned months. She encouraged me to go to cosmetology school. At first I resisted. But the memory stuck with me. After two years of avoiding the conversation, nana, passed. I knew that she saw potential in me... and I did want to make a difference in the lives of others. I resolved to go to school. It has been almost three years since then... and, while I miss my grandmother deeply, I know that my helping others feel great on the outside can bring out their inner beauty.
