Hired on Thumbtack

I had initially hired another contractor from Thumbtack. When I checked out his license, I saw he had falsified it. This guy left me in a mess. Not only did he order materials with my credit card, said he was "low on his business cash" but then he walked off the job because it was "too much horse for him". Even though I had not hired Oscar initially, he was willing to come out to see the project for a second time. After the disaster I had experience with the first guy, I checked him out thoughly. I called his refrences, I checked his license (he actually has one!) and then I hired him. Am I glad I did. The project was not a "fence" project but two cages for my ducks. I was worried about predators getting to my ducks and Oscar made sure the cages are predator proof. I'm very happy with The Fence Guy! I am very unhappy with the other "contractor" so I'm going to follow up with the State Licensing Board as this should not happen. Always check the license for any job over $500--that is CA state law! Thanks Oscar for taking care of my duckies!

Details: Residential • Completely replace an existing fence/gate • Keep pets on property • 200 - 250 feet • 6 feet • 3 gates • I'm ready to hire the right fence pro based on price & fit

Oscar is a nice , honest person and appears to be an expert in fence repair. He showed up to my house the same day at 6:30pm, took one look at the broken lock on my fence and fixed it in 15 minutes! What was most impressive is instead of charging me the fee he quoted (250) he said he would only charge $40 because it was such a quick job! Now my front gate closes securely and my dog is safely contained. I'm so glad I found Oscar. I'm having him come back soon to make a new fence for my side gate! I highly recommend Oscar and his assistant (I forgot his name) for any fence repair issues.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

My advice is to do your research. The more you know the better it is for everyone. Customers don't realize how much hard work is involved in putting up a fence.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What a potential customers should think through is what does he or she want to accomplish with a new fence. Meaning do you want privacy with your fence. Maybe you're fence is more of a security issue. A wood fence looks great. There's just a lot of maintenance involved with a wood fence. A wrought iron fence will last a long time but you don't get no privacy like you would with a vinyl fence. I would highly recommend a vinyl fence. Just because it looks great after ten years and it's absolutely maintenance free.
