- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to begin with a clear understanding of what the client — individual or business — is trying to achieve through a particular project, and how the project fits into his or her larger mission or purpose. Ideally, I'll gain a clear understanding of long-term goals, short-term objectives, the audience(s) we are trying to reach and the behavior we are seeking to inspire. I then usually work with the client to clarify and articulate the messages we wish to communicate, and determine whether there is credible evidence to support any claims. Only then do we actually commence with development of whatever communications piece we're producing.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied journalism and public relations at the University of Southern California, followed by more than 25 years experience in marketing, PR and corporate communications, which includes working for some of the top PR firms in the country. I am accredited in public relations (APR) and currently serve on the Public Relations Society of America's board of directors. I formerly served on the boards of Los Angeles and Orange County chapters, was president of the Orange County Chapter, and chairman of the Western District, comprising chapters in Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, California and Hawaii.
