Introduction: I have worked as a private yoga instructor for about ten years and as a personal trainer for three year. I am confident I can get people moving in safe form. I work with people to remove pain from their bodies. I work to create a better mind body connection.

Joy Rika is a great yoga teacher. Not only does she really know her stuff, but she likes her students and wants them to succeed. You can see that in the patience and good humor she brings to her work. She is incredibly supportive and she works with you at a pace that is comfortable for you. Best personal trainer/yoga coach/instructor I ever had!

Joy is an excellent trainer. She is well prepared, focused and works well around injuries. She has set up a pre-row warm up that really works to get me moving on the water. You will not be dissapointed.

Joy has a very calming style. She understands the medical aspects of yoga well. For example, I was having wrist pain and she was able to explain why and how to correct my pose to resolve it. No other yoga instructor pointed out the issue before. She listens well and modifies her routines to the individual. She has a very healing, non-judgmental nature and I'd recommend her as a private instructor for one-on-ones or small groups.

I love doing Yoga with Joy, one of her attributes is her ability to teach... her classes are very informative! What I also appreciate about her is the fact she is very receptive to my needs as an amputee/adaptive athlete. She helped make my experience very comfortable and I highly recommend her, whether you're a beginner newbie (like myself) or have tons of experience- Joy is amazing at what she does and you won't be disappointed!

Joy created workouts that were interesting and fun. We went all over long beach meeting in parks and on the beach for our sessions. She designed the classes to use different equipment and focusing on different areas of the body to keep it interesting and to work towards a holistic training programme. She tailor made the workouts to work towards my individuals goals and abilities. I would recommend joy to anyone looking to get in shape while having fun !

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have over 500 hours of training and have taught over a thousand hours of yoga. I keep up to date with my training hours and am currently in a two year program to be a better teacher! I believe in life long learning.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have taught yoga privately for a long time. My youngest client was 6 years old (I taught children’s classes at a shelter) to my oldest client 96 years old! I have worked teaching adaptive yoga, chair yoga, different levels of flow classes, elementary students, seniors, men and women. I believe the beauty of yoga is that anyone who can breathe on their own is capable of this practice! It’s not all about whether or not you can touch your toes.
