I've only had one lesson so far, but she is very, very knowledgeable about Cello, and has helped me a lot even after only one lesson. I'm very much looking forward to more lessons with her!

Ms. Kim is an incredible musician and teacher. She is not your average cello teacher, and I've had several! I feel so lucky that I had the chance to study music with her. I learned SO much about playing the cello, but she also helped me to make my own music too! She's extremely knowledgable about cello playing and I improved so much learning from her. She also actually encouraged me to open up and explore my own creative side as well, and gave me a lot of confidence to express myself. I wanted to write and play my own songs on the cello for my husband as a birthday gift, and she helped me throughout the entire process. It was AMAZING. Although I'm not a professional musician, I've been playing cello and piano for almost 12 years, and I've never had any cello teacher who would do something like that with me! She's simply the best.

I LOVED taking lessons from her when she lived in NYC! I improved so much in the 3 years I studied with her. Her energy and passion for music is truly inspiring. She focuses on a balance of developing strong technique with overall musicianship. She's an expert musician and teacher. I can't recommend her enough. I had 2 previous teachers before studying with her, and the difference in how much I learned with her was huge. She's the best!

Fantastic teacher, musician. Learning so much about technique...she helped me correct a bunch of bad habits I had. I'm also learning a lot about musicality and theory which I didn't know very much about, in fact, was quite intimidated to learn. I really enjoy and look forward to my lessons very much.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Am flexible with lesson prices, and willing to work with you so you can study with me. I believe money should never be a reason why you can't study music!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I take the time to get to know you and your personal connection with music, the cello, arts and creativity. I want to know what inspires you and what you are passionate about. From there, we begin to explore how to bring all of that to your journey with learning the cello and developing your overall musicianship. With children, I find the connection a child has with learning and discovering, and give lessons utilizing a variety of methods designed specifically for that child. My goal is for the child to have fun learning music/cello, while developing a lifelong appreciation and connection to music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended prestigious conservatories in Boston and in Europe since a young age, and have been a musician since a child. I've performed at Carnegie Hall, and at festivals around the world. In addition to my extensive studies in classical music, I also am a composer and encourage every one of my students to explore their own creativity. I play a wide variety of musical styles, and am very happy to teach all different kinds of music. Music is my calling, my life. I've been teaching for over 25 years, from beginners to Ivy League PhD students, children to adults, young of age to the young at heart.
I currently on music faculty at Cornish College of the Arts.
