Introduction: I've had many years of experience directing actors. I use the same knowledge and experience when photographing people. Whether it's natural light or studio light, at home or at a location, candid or posed, my end goal is to create "beautiful" images. Currently I specialize in Headshots for actors, models, linked-in and other social-media profiles. I also do Family and Children Portraits. I love photography because it allows me to be creative. Other than the technical aspect of it, it also has an aesthetic and an emotional sense to it. When assigned a shoot, I think about the location, source of light, the kind of lens, the wardrobe, the color scheme, framing and ultimately who I am photographing. All these elements have to come together to produce a great photo.

Anisha is a terrific photographer! She took the time to understand me and what I wanted in a professional headshot. I do not consider myself an easy subject, in that I am not photogenic. Yet Anisha managed to take multiple shots that were truly excellent. For the first time ever, I had difficulty choosing. I have no doubt this was the result of her experience, her patience, and her eye for the right shot. I would recommend Anisha to anyone needing a photographer.

I hired Anisha a couple of weeks ago for a set of professional headshots. She was very efficient at contacting me with details and confirming our appointment, and within a week after the shoot I had already received my CD of photos from her in the mail. She sent me many photos from our shoot, for the price that other Thumbtack photographers were charging for one single photo, which I really appreciated. It was important to me to be able to select the right look when all was said and done, not just end up with the photo that she thought was best. So, thumbs up for that. She was kind enough to offer me some water when I got to her house as well as some time to double-check my makeup and hair before we got started. During the shoot, she adjusted my hair slightly to help get a better shot at various times, which I thought was good of her to do. My one complaint about that was that I thought my hair looked unlike me in most of the photos; I would have liked some coaching from her asking for a little bit of natural movement or the occasional head toss to make both my hair and my facial expressions seem more real and relaxed. She works very quietly; I would have appreciated more direction and more friendly banter to help put me at ease. I didn't know that I should have asked for this, but I did not receive any guidance from her ahead of time about what to wear (solid colors or not, nice pants or not, change of clothes or not), and it turned out that the photos showed far more of my shirt and my pants than I had planned on, and I didn't know what color the backdrop was going to be -- if I had known I would probably have chosen a different outfit. The photos turned out somewhat darker than I would have liked, but there were two or three that I really loved. And that's all I needed. She seemed to do a nice job with the editing, as well. The best part of the whole experience was that Anisha knew that I am a therapist, and so she suggested that we take some shots on her very chic-looking couch, to better reflect the look I was going for. I appreciated the thoughtfulness and personal attention that went into that idea. Overall, I have some nice photos, but was a little bummed with the experience itself, and I left feeling self-conscious. If you've gotten professional photos taken before, though, and know what questions to ask, you may be more satisfied with the process.
Studio Z Squared's reply
Hi Rachel, Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate the positive comments. As per direction, It's a catch 22. Sometimes I have noticed when I give too much direction, people tend to get too self conscious. And it back fires and looks like they are trying too hard. That's why sometimes I hold back and let my subject come up with expressions that feels natural to them. As per your hair, it seemed flat to me and the reason why I was adjusting it. I apologize if it didn't look natural to you. The colors you had on were good colors for professional shots. Most professionals prefer blue and black and I assumed that's what you preferred too. As per the photos, I would be more than happy to brighten them up for you. It's not a problem at all. I will be mindful of everything you have said in the future. Thank you again for your business.

Anisha was very easy to work with. She was calm and patient with our new born. We loved our pictures. She took her time to take all the pictures. We had Anisha come back out to take our family photos. I love that we got the pictures all on a cd. Thank you!

Anisha recently took beautiful family photos for us. My three kids were challenging subjects to say the least, yet she was able to get them to cooperate and produce beautiful results. I really admired her ability to stay calm and professional despite the behavioral challenges posed by my kids. She had us meet her at a beautiful outdoor location and had a way of capturing us in natural poses which included movement as well as tender and real emotions. I was ready to give up a couple of times, but she never was! I would definitely use her for future shoots and highly recommend her to others as well!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a certificate degree in Photography from UCLA extension.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Photography was always a passion. When my kids started school, I was aching to go back to work. But my line of business required me to be away from home and work long hours which wasn't an option for me. So, I decided to turn my passion into my profession. With photography, I can dictate my own hours, it fits perfectly into my schedule and it allows me to be creative.
