I am an experienced sax (alto, tenor, bari) and clarinet player and wanted to add flute to the mix for jazz and folk music. After 3 months of youtube videos and self-teaching using Rubank's Intermediate Method, I was unhappy with my flute's sound and my overall technical progress. After only 3 lessons Eric has been very helpful in helping me to unlearn bad habits I taught myself and in improving my intonation and articulation. He has given me excellent tips for effective practice sessions that will also benefit my sax and clarinet playing. He is very easy to work with and makes the hour-long flutelesson an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will start by asking a few questions about the students musical experiences, how long they’ve been playing, what musically interests them. From there I’ll listen to the student play, and find a good starting point to create goals or tasks. I strive to find a balance between the students musical interests and what I feel are important aspects of playing that need attention.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor of music in jazz performance from University of Oregon, as well as a master in music degree from University of Nevada Reno. I have been playing and studying Saxophone for 17 years, and teaching full time for 5 years.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
My teachers and mentors meant a lot to me growing up, so I began teaching as a way to give back. I love seeing students grow musically and overcome challenges.
