I hired Michael Tabb to write a feature film adaptation of Robert E. Howard's novela "Vultures" when I was at Paradox Entertainment. Michael wrote a fantastic script for us. He showed great ability in distilling information from multiple producers, delivering exactly what they asked him for, and provided unique ideas that took the project to an entirely new level. Michael is a pleasure to work with and is the ultimate collaborator. I admire his passion for screenwriting and think he brings the goods on every project. I'd recommend him anytime. Paula gave me more time attention then I asked for or expected. I could tell she was genuine and meticulous regarding her very helpful feedback. I would highly recommend her services.

I offer screenplay writing and rewriting, as well as script development and treatments services. I am an award-winning screenwriter with 7 produced movie credits, including two films for renowned director, Wes Craven. In my professional-level screenwriting workshops, 5 films have been launched from my workshops, including Scream and Event Horizon.

Versatility, variety, and efficiency. I can personally field every aspect of a video production including writing, directing, cinematography, audio recording, editing, sound design, graphic design, animation, composite effects, audio mixing, and so forth. If budgets allow for it and timelines require it, I can staff up a production in a jiffy and manage the workflow with incredible efficiency thanks to my intimate experience with the responsibilities of each department. When budgets are tight and deadlines are a little looser, I will gladly take on all levels of execution myself... and still get things done within a reasonable time frame.

Being from Brazil I have a different grasp of reality that reflects in all my writing as a powerful tool

I work with a high volume of clients on a reoccurring basis. From doing coverage for The BlackList to re-writing assignments for Sony, I can cover it all. In a very short time, I can assist you in writing treatments, coverage, outlines, features, pilots, miniseries, you name it.

Do you need a great script, written for you, or rewritten or analyzed? I am a produced and professionally-represented screenwriter who works in various genres and has written feature film screenplays and treatments many times on assignment, for producers and investors. No matter what genre, my screenplays are "page-turners" which people have difficulty putting down until they finish.

We don't give notes. We deliver the script! What do Tim Burton, Wes Anderson, and Martin Scorsese have in common? They began their careers making short films. What does a great short film do? 1) Grabs attention 2) Creates an emotion 3) Leaves viewers with a story they can’t stop thinking about for days The harmony of these three elements is called a GREAT SHORT SCRIPT. Problem. You can’t write. Guess what? Many great directors can’t either. Ridley Scott, David Fincher, and Alfred Hitchcock never wrote a screenplay in their brilliant lives. How did they bypass this obstacle? They had their visions translated into screenplay form by a professional screenwriter; or a person the studios pay 6 figures to hone big ideas into three act structures. You too have an idea, an inspiration, a vision… if only these ideas were a taut 10-15 pages of vibrant characters, juicy dialogue, and visual perfection. You can then begin the process of shooting your masterpiece. If only, like David Fincher, you too could hire a pro to convert your inspiration into a cinematic blue print… Well, your prayer has been answered. You can hire a pro. We’re the Short Script Gods. Professional screenwriters who specialize in the short film format. We do not charge 6 figures. We will write your accolade-winning short that will have everyone seeing you the way you always saw yourself – as the next Paul Thomas Anderson, Kathryn Bigelow or Steven Spielberg (all three also began their careers with a short). Start short. Grow tall.

I am a screenwriter and film director. One-Half World, a short film I wrote, directed, produced, and edited, was an official selection of the Slamdance Film Festival 2009. I have a film degree from Columbia College Chicago. I know how to write scripts. I know how to edit scripts. I've also watched and critiqued countless features for film festivals, like the L.A. Film Festival. I know what works and what doesn't. I know what programmers and screeners have seen hundreds of times before and don't want to see again. I can fix your script for you, or tell you how to fix it yourself. I can also write a script from scratch, or rewrite someone else's work, or adapt a novel, short story or play. Upon request, I will send you the first twenty pages of my most current screenplay, which received a Scriptapalooza Recommend and a Script Pipeline Consider.

I am a screenwriter and and novelist. I have written my works in many different genres. Although I have only been at this for a relatively short time, I have been making some in-roads into the film industry. The film for my screenplay, "The Good Adoption," is being made into a film and is nearing pre-production. Another screenplay, "Not Since the Toothbrush," is gaining financial backing. My screenplay, "Daria" is a finalist in the Beverly Hills Film Festival, Screenplay competition 2011. "Fear Center" was a semi-finalist at the Script Pipeline Screenplay competition of 2011. On the creative side, I know the techniques that make for a successful screenplay--appropriate dialog, use of subtext and foreshadowing, conflict, dramatic element, character and plot development and resolution. On the technical side, I understand the format, style, size and structure necessary to meet industry standards. I have written three novels and have novelized two of my screenplays. I have also adapted a book for the big screen -- von Goethe's "The Sorrows of Young Werther." I am a full time writer, dividing my time between my own work and client projects. For my client work, I provide professional deliverables in a timely manner. I always maintain an open line of communications with my clients to ensure that the results are what they want and expect and I work well in a collaborative effort. When working with clients, I offer my advice if I feel a scene or story segment is not cinematic or if there are gaps or implausibilities in the plot. However, my client always has the final say. I appreciate any opportunities you may have for me.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
