Writing and Editing Services
Deb is a pro. I chose Deb for copy editing a PhD dissertation. Deb provided not only regular editing in terms of grammar, punctuations, etc., but also highly intellectual suggestions and comments on the CONTENT of the paper. Deb would go extra miles to make sure everything is professional and reader-friendly. For example, one of the footnote spanned across two pages, which is not a pleasant thing to have (but sometimes you have to live with it). Deb spent quite some effort looking into the issue and finally solved it. Also, based on my interaction with Deb, I learnt that Deb has quite expansive knowledge about many academic areas. That is, if a particular area has certain "norms" in writing papers, Deb would know those norms very well. For example, in Accounting, it is well accepted that objects can be treated grammatically the same as human (I forgot the exact linguistic terminology for that matter). I would definitely recommend choosing Deb as your copy editor, especially for any academic work. The service is well worth the money.Jan 4, 2020Verified
My colleague and I wanted editing help with a journal manuscript in need of substantial revisions. We were also within a month of a deadline. As educators ourselves, we selected Dr. Deb based on her education and extensive experience. We were not disappointed. She possesses a keen understanding of the editorial protocols and politics of journal publishing. She knew exactly how to reorganize and focus our writing; she knew how to research quickly and efficiently; she knew how to package up our manuscript for journal review. Dr. Deb completed all of her work well within our tight deadline. We appreciated her prompt responses to our frequent emails. We highly recommend Dr. Deb for anyone looking for serious, academic editorial services designed to help ensure professional success.Oct 15, 2016Verified
There are no words to describe the excellent service and quality of work I received from Dr. Wood in preparing my chapter 1 dissertation. After failing at two attempts, I could successfully pass it. Without Dr. Wood’s feedbacks and recommendations, I would not have been able to achieve this milestone. Dr. Wood provided me with practical suggestions that helped me improve my writing skills looking at every sentence for spelling, typos, sentence structure and word choice. Throughout the whole review, I was able to avoid mistakes and ensure that each section of the chapter fulfills all section requirements. With English being my second language, it has often been a real challenge to meet academic scholarly writing. I consider myself fortunate to work with someone who understands ESL student’s challenges. Dr. Wood has been tremendously instrumental in providing tips, advice and valuable recommendations necessary to achieve the standards of academic writing, and. I am so grateful and will highly recommend Dr. Wood’s editing services to any Doctoral student regardless of their level of achievement. She is always available, punctual, professional, and often meet all deadlines.Dec 31, 2017

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I work on a sliding scale and frequently try to "bundle" services if you need more than one service. No job is too big or too small. I make quotes on the draft to be edited and type of work to be done. Why? Because, for example, no two research papers, grant applications, or businesses are the same. Note schools and journals have differing requirements. The level of editing you need can differ greatly from someone else. Why should you pay a one-size fits all price when I can deliver service with fees that match your needs? Regardless of which style of writing and editing you must use, why should you pay for more than you need? Because I offer many different services, I can be one-stop shopping. If you need editing or writing, I make quotes directly on draft that you provide so that I can give you the best price possible as based on your needs. In this way I can do exactly what you need without giving a one-size fits all price. I can also provide several quotes that might meet your needs so that you can choose. I most often charge by page for writing and editing and sometimes by hour for coaching and other kinds of meetings. I give discounts for longer-term customers. I expect payment up front on small jobs but I can work out payments on larger jobs. My rates vary widely on page charges, from several dollars per page up to $35 or so for detailed developmental editing/writing. Similarly, the coaching rates vary mostly based on what your combined needs may be.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I need to know as much as you are comfortable with sharing about your needs. If its editing then I will ask to see documents prior to quoting on them. I make quotes directly on draft that you provide so that I can give you the best price possible as based on your needs. In this way I can do exactly what you need without giving a one-size fits service and one-size fits all pricing. Any document or information you send will remain confidential. When you contact me through Thumbtack I will provide you with an email to forward your document or you can post it for me on Thumbtack. If we decide to discuss your needs by phone then we can exchange a number via Thumbtack. Whether we communicate via email or phone, we can keep this documented on thumbtack if you want. A first short consultations by phone is free. As needed, I enjoy getting to know clients as needed so that I can offer them exactly what it is they want. I aim for personalized service and I am very thorough. The idea in communicating is for me to get your work done expediently and help you choose only the services you really need and not more than. One of the great joys I have is helping people succeed!
