Hi Fellow VO Friends! I have been a pro VO actor since I was 16. I am a classically trained (Uta Hagen) professional actor (TV, Film, Theater) and pro voiceover actor for over 30 years. I have seen many changes in the VO Industry in the last 30 years here in LA. My career and my acting training now speak directly to the style and needs of the industry in Commercial, Animation and Narration VO. No more "sell", no more "announcing". The preference in almost all VO is Conversational, Real and Authentic - definitely for Commercial VO and even in many animated series and video games. Because the style of voiceover is naturalistic, having real acting chops as a VO artist is imperative to land gigs. I have been training VO actors in classes and seminars, in person and remotely for the last 15 years and I love launching new VO artists into this incredibly diverse marketplace. Jeannie Elias will forever be who I have fondly come to call my "VO Fairy Godmother"! She was vital and essential in the creation of my now ongoing Voice Over career.
Jeannie was my coach and mentor for several years as I dared to wade into the waters of the VO world. One thing that is immediately obvious about Jeannie is her highly refined ability to act, communicate, and connect... both with herself, and anybody else. These qualities are what helped create the safety within myself for her to access and derive from me what was necessary to grow, evolve, and thrive as a Voice Over Artist.
My first three professional demos were coached and produced by Jeannie... Commercial, Commercial Character, and Animation.
I have often referred to Jeannie as "World Class" and expressed how fortunate I was to have met her and to have had her influence as a coach. Her coaching technique has always been consistent... whether in large workshops, small groups, or one-on-one. Most of our one-on-one sessions were done remotely via phone patch or Skype, to great effect. The job of the Voice Actor is to create the world, character, or message they are representing with their voice, but originating from within their authentic self and truth. Remote coaching allows the learner to have the safety, security, and privacy necessary to learn, but with NO sacrifice to the level and quality of instruction. I had the great privilege of working with Jeannie crafting my first demo reels as I began my voice acting career. I cannot recommend Jeannie as a VO teacher more strongly. She has an excellent methodology and a keen instinct for getting the most out of her student's range and capabilities, and developing those further; I'm understood to be a very versatile performer among those I work with, but Jeannie helped reveal aspects and potentialities of my voice I hadn't even considered. Such is breadth and depth of her experience and impeccable attention to detail. Not only is Jeannie, at least in my opinion, one of the top VO coaches around, but also a fantastic person to work with, as a scene partner and an individual.
