Ricardo is a diligent electrician who genuinely wants to do a good job. He is reasonably priced, knows his stuff and works hard. He is good at planing the times he is available and forecasting how long the project will take. He showed up on time and did the work. At times, you may want to be sure to over earlier specifications when he arrives for the day so there is no miscommunication in what is expected and what will it take to accomplish that. My job was fairly complicated as it involved ceiling, wall, panels and wiring for a variety of devices that are not normally used. I'd hire him again.

We found Salinas home remodeling services most helpful in several ways. Services done for us included electrical wiring, plumbing installation, wall and ceiling painting with texture applications. Also, bathtub, sink and appliance installation. All work was done at high standards. Note: we also experienced generous and positive attitudes from soft spoken professionals, and received on time service. Above all, we have memories of his installation process that are most rewarding. Thank You, Mr. Vyron Salinas and his helper Pablo. Yours truly, Nicholas Adkins

Renato was friendly and professional. I was happy with the work he did: replacing some boards on deck stairs, tightening up loose faucet in bathroom, and some other small maintenance jobs.

Jasper built some gorgeous custom closets for us. This included 6 custom doors and a new cabinet. All not only looked great but matched the style of our house. Jasper was also easy to communicate with, trustworthy and considerate. We’d give him 6 stars if we could. He also fixed our neighbor’s stairs during the project and our neighbor is also very happy with the outcome.

Tom Hoban was slow and careful and gave us two safety handrails & a railing for our deck. It's very sturdy so we were pleased with the finished project. The project took longer than he estimated, but he honored the original price. He was pleasant to work with. Painting was neatly done & he cleaned up after each day. Our only criticism is that the project took quite awhile to complete, but we were not in a big hurry.

I feel very lucky to have connected with Tom. It's a crap shoot sometimes finding the right person to do the right job. Tom is a former contractor and he's the one you want for any carpentry type jobs. We had a gazebo with the top boards rotting away and Tom replaced them all with new redwood boards without disturbing the surrounding plants and he added some nice railings. He also put up an extension to our fence and as a bonus he fixed our gate. Thank you Tom! All these five star reviews are the REAL thing.

I had a job that needed to be completed before Christmas and am so very happy that Barry was the first person to respond. I had a heavy and big reclaimed beam that I wanted to "float" above my fireplace. It was a little bit of a complex engineering feat and thankfully Barry had come up with a perfect design to hold the weight of the beam and get the look that I was after. He customized the metal brace and was able to seamlessly recess the beam into the wall so that it looks like it's always been there. He, and his assistant, were able to come out the next day and complete the job in under 2 hours. They were awesome!! I will definitely work with them again.

Edwin did a magnificent job for me. He fixed our stair railing, garage door, installed a new garbage disposal and installed our new double Bosch Oven which needed the cabinet to be strengthened and redone. Overall could not be happier with the quality of the work he did. On time and on budget.

I worked with Dave and his team in transforming our backyard from a wasteland to an awesome outdoor living space. He provided trees, lawn, irrigation, pavers, a beautiful custom built wooden arbor with park bench, fence lattice, crushed granite hardscape and jasmine plants. Dave does not disappear from a project and manages it with very tight communication/updates throughout. His landscape installation leads are very nice and take a lot of pride in their work. It was a pleasure and in the end we feel like we got everything we wanted at a fair and competitive price. Two thumbs up!

Khalden built and installed two custom interior railings in our home for two unique staircases. We called him just a few weeks before we needed them installed and he was able to design, build and install them in less than two weeks. The work product is high quality and aligns perfectly with the style of our home and the requirements of the space. We will be hiring him again for a few other projects we have in our home.

Mark was wonderful to work with. He responded quickly to messages on Thumbtack and via text. He was punctual and flexible with our schedule. He walked through everything with us, listened to our concerns and needs, and worked with us to stay within our budget and timing, and sequenced projects accordingly. He also has a great sense of humor and was pleasant to talk with. We were very happy with his work and the work of the professionals he worked with for electrical, plumbing, and painting. The work that was done: removal and replacement of 2 windows, walls, and flooring where there was water damage, wood rot, and the start of mold; adding a door to access the space under the front stairs and creating a storage space with tiled floor and drywall; waterproofing / sealing the brick of our front steps and porch; removing carpeting and laminate flooring and installation of new laminate flooring; installing siding on the front of our house and painting of the front of the house (2 stories); texturizing and painting walls; installing a wet bar / kitchenette; replacing shower pan, tile, and shower door; removal of tree and bushes in front yard. I think that’s everything. We highly recommend Mark and would happily work with him again.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How many types of welding are there?

Welding is a method of fusing together two or more pieces of metal using electricity or flame. Welding is used to construct buildings, make metal sculptures, build and repair cars, make gates and furniture, and for many other practical and aesthetic uses. There are multiple types of welding. Here is an overview of the most popular methods:

      • Stick welding: Formally known as shielded metal arc welding, stick welding uses extreme heat applied at the seam of two separate metals to melt them together. A third (intermediary) metal may also be incorporated for added strength. As the metals cool, they are bonded together.
      • Metal inert gas (MIG) welding: Formally known as gas metal arc welding, MIG welding uses a tool to feed metal wire into the weld puddle while an electrical arc melts the wire, which will fuse to the base metal upon cooling.
      • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding: Formally referred to gas tungsten arc welding, TIG welding is a similar process MIG welding, but instead of using a tool that continuously feeds metal wire into the weld puddle, the welder must hold and manually feed the stick.
      • Gas welding: A mix of flammable gas and oxygen is used to heat metal to the melting point.
      • Forge welding: Forging metal is an ancient art that involves heating two pieces of metal until they are molten, then hammering them together.

      How long is welding training?

Because there are different paths to learning to weld, there’s no single timeline for welding training. Some people attend school part-time while working their current job, while others can focus full-time on their welding training courses. People interested in learning how to weld as a hobby can also take classes from professional welders, such as at KCMA & Services in Waterloo, Indiana.

Expect to take at least two years to go from welding newbie to American Welding Society Certified Welder. A junior college Certificate of Completion welding course is two semesters full-time, or 10 units of coursework. With this certificate, students are qualified for an apprenticeship or internship, rather than a full-time entry-level job. Welding apprenticeships range from 6,000 to 8,000 hours long, equalling three to four years at 2,000 hours per year. Some junior colleges, such as Cerritos College in the Los Angeles area, offer more in-depth welding programs that lead to different welding certifications, such as arc welding and tungsten gas arc welding. These take three to four semesters to complete, so you could be qualified for an entry-level job in about two years of full-time study. Alternatively, you can prepare for employment more quickly through an intensive vocational program at a trade school. For instance, Ohio’s Lincoln Electric Company offers a comprehensive program that prepares people for a welding career in just 20 weeks and 600 hours of hands-on instruction.

Where can I take welding classes?

Your options for welding classes depend on where you live and whether you’re willing to travel. Many skilled professionals offer private or group welding classes across the U.S. Some high schools offer classes for teens, but many people learn from a private trainer or in a junior college or vocational school. Students learn basic welding, machining and fabrication processes, including using gas and arc welding equipment, and qualify for an apprenticeship or internship. Other colleges as well as vocational schools have two-year associate’s degree programs that prepare you to take the welding certification exam and seek full-time employment.

      How much is welding training?

The cost of welding training depends on where you take your classes and how quickly you want to complete the program. In general, junior college welding classes are the least expensive, but may take longer; trade schools offer intensive classes that lead to certification more quickly, but are more expensive. For example, Cerritos College, a junior college in Los Angeles that offers a welding training course, charges an average of $46 per unit; most of their welding certificate programs require 19 units of coursework, so cost about $875 each to complete. Pro-Weld, an on-site welding school in Idaho, offers three different welding courses. The 36-week welder fabrication and the 24-week gas tungsten arc welding courses each cost an average of $3,300, while pipe welding costs an average of $2,500 for a 24-week session or an average of $4,500 for a 52-week session. The 20-week comprehensive program at the Lincoln Electric Company in Ohio costs an average of $9,500. Many programs require students to purchase approximately $120-$200 worth of personal welding equipment in addition to textbooks or other class material fees.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
