In my 10 years of Mathematics teaching experience, I have received Excellent ratings from students and administrators. Utilizing my background, I have been able to successfully transition to the role of tutor. During the tutoring sessions, I encourage interaction because I believe that constant feedback will improve performance. Since I began the current tutoring sessions, I've found that students can improve their grades, gain understanding of math concepts and increase their self-confidence with tutoring support. A particular current concern among parents are "the common core" math concepts that provide an additional challenge. Whether it is Algebra, Geometry, Common Core Math, or test preparation for standardized tests such as GRE, CBEST, CHSPE, HESI, GED, or SAT exams, when you need some extra help with Math, call or text Ray Matlak.

I am very happy to have found Ray. My 9th grade daughter has always been an excellent student. Yet she has struggled a lot with her math. So much that I started to realize that she was giving up on this subject and accepting that she would never be good when it came to math. Ray was very patient with her and has a great tutoring style that allowed her to grasp concepts that she previously did not understand in class. Ray took my daughter from an F to a C in less than 3 months. Which was amazing. Along with a better grade came a more confident math student and kid.

I am not one to leave a ton of reviews for services and I have had mixed success with Thumbtack, but I think this man is an unsung hero!!! My daughter has struggled in math for years, since grammar school, and is now in 8th grade. She continued to struggle with a different tutor. We have been working once a week with Mr. Matlak now for about six weeks and the difference is simply amazing. She just got her first "A" in a math quiz since grammar school and we both nearly cried in relief and joy. The two most important things about him - he KNOWS the concepts cold (some tutors DON'T), and he is PATIENT. I came to the conclusion that my daughter simply would not get the pace of learning or individualized attention in the public school setting that she needs for this particular topic. She is doing well in other topics but math is her Achilles heel. I didn't have the patience (or the knowledge) to help much and it became a source of frustration for both of us. It is such a RELIEF to see her more confident and not stressed about math now!! I can't say enough good things about Mr. Matlak. He promptly answered my inquiries, quickly provided two references who gave glowing reviews, and we are so happy to have him. We didn't want to go the Sylvan or other company routes - Mr. Matlak comes to your home, sits down with your student, and gets to work. I can't believe I did not invest in my child's future earlier in her school career - it is well worth it. We do an hour a week and it has made a VAST difference. I have no relation to Mr. Matlak (other than to sing his praises) and I would be happy to provide anyone interested with additional comments. Update April 22, 2015: Our daughter continues to work with Ray weekly and is now pulling a "B" average, coming up from the "D" average she was pulling when we started. Not struggling and spending so much time on math has allowed her to focus on her other classes and encouraged her to bring her other grades up as well as she prepares to enter high school. We couldn't be more pleased to see our daughter's confidence growing with respect to math. We'll keep him through COLLEGE if he's willing!! All kidding aside, Ray is well worth the investment, even if your budget calls for less frequent tutoring sessions.

This is a thank you note to Teacher Matlak for helping me pass my math courses and earn my high school diploma. At age 60, I knew it would not be an easy goal. And as I advanced through the math portion, It was clear that I was going to need some help. Equations, polynomials and slopes, oh my! That's when I started a search for a tutor. I found Ray Matlak on Thumbtack. We spoke for awhile and it felt like a good fit so we made an in home appointment. He arrived on time, was prepared and most importantly, was patient. Some days I required 90 minute sessions three times a week. It was rough. All the work paid off though. In July, 2018 I finally received my High School Diploma with a 4.2 GPA. So, to you Ray Matlak, I extend my heartfelt thanks. I could not have done it without you. Debbie

Mr. Matlak is an outstanding Math tutor - I only wish we had found him sooner so my son would not have had to struggle through Algebra last year. He interacts well, encourages my son to interact - they work together, it's not just Mr. Matlak teaching my son. My son's Geometry grades have improved and he has expressed he has a much better understanding of assignments after tutoring. I would give Matlak Math Tutoring my highest recommendation!

One of the students that I tutored - an 8th grade student, Alex, attended James L Day Middle School. At the end of the school year, Alex was named the "Math Student of the Year". He came in #1 out of 300 students and received High School Geometry credit as well.
