Introduction: I offer personalized one-on-one and small group tutoring in English (ESL), French, Spanish, German and Russian, as well as basic reading and writing. I am a native speaker of American English, having been born and raised in California. Additionally, I lived for several years in Belgium and France, including 3 years in public school there. I have spoken Spanish conversationally for two decades, and have studied German through college as well. I speak, read and write basic Russian.
I have taught ESL for 25 years, and French for 5. My passion is Grammar and Pronunciation. I have a BA in French, a minor in Linguistics, and I completed all the coursework for a Masters Degree in Teaching. I have a Lifetime Community College Teaching Credential.
I am available to assist you in any aspect of Language learning, including Grammar, Pronunciation / Accent Reduction, Conversation, Reading and Writing.
My client base includes junior and high school students (French, Spanish), adults (ESL, French, Spanish), and young children 5-8 years old (Reading / Writing). Additionally, clients have come to me for Singing classes (operatic pronunciation), and Business fundamentals classes (ESL for Business).
I am passionate about helping people gain and improve their competency in any language. I am patient and encouraging with my students. We start with wherever you are in your language learning, and proceed from there, according to your needs and preferences.
Sometimes it may take a bit of time to understand how all the grammar or vocabulary fits together -- but then there is that "A-ha!" moment, and the recognition of a level of fluency that can be attained, by anyone. This moment is precious to me -- and to the student.
I am especially fond of the lessons in American pronunciation when we work on a difficult word like "thank" or "this" or "roaring" -- and the student is able to put all those uniquely American sounds together for best comprehension by the intended audience.
I look forward to working with more students!
