My girlfriend and I moved from Brooklyn to Santa Monica last month and after spending hours pouring over our moving options (honestly, we prob spent 10 hours reading reviews and calling around for quotes) decided to go with Shleppers. Honestly, besides the decision to finally move to California, it's almost certainly the best choice I've made this year!! Our experience started with calling Shlepper's back in New York. Unlike the customer service reps we spoke with at competing companies, our representative took the time to understand the intricacies of our move. Where every other firm merely wanted to know how large our apartment was and made 'educated guesses' about needed resources and pricing accordingly, the Shleppers team had us walk through each of our substantive items to get a better understanding of our exact needs and properly match the 'crew' to the job. Now I'll be honest, the initial quote we received was not the cheapest among the mix, however, any hesitation we had about spending a little more cash completely went away on 'pick-up' day. The truck arrived in front of our third floor Brooklyn walk up and out the truck came perhaps the four most agile, motivated and capable moving men I've ever come across (and I've probably moved 6 times in 10 years). Despite the fact we have some ENORMOUS custom-made pieces the team disassembled, packed and transferred everything to the truck in about three hours (my girlfriend and I had a bet how long it would take before they got there and we thought it would be no less than 6). They wrapped each of our pieces with an abundance of care, making sure to even supplement the bubble wrapping I did on boxes I had personally packed the day before. A fun tool and something I'd never seen on any move previously were the team’s use of a modern database tool to enter and track each item as it was being loaded. Well, after the whirlwind pickup, we tipped our crew and jumped on a flight to CA, relatively sure our stuff would arrive in the same condition as when shipped. Well, we had some problems with accessing our LA apartment and subsequently, our belonging’s arrived in town before we could accept delivery. The Shleppers team was entirely transparent about the process and arranged for storage of our stuff until we could provide them a place for delivery. While we initially thought it would only be a day until we could get into our new apartment, it turned out to be closer to a month, so by the time ‘drop-off’ day arrived we were a little nervous about the condition of our stuff. Well, as each item started being offloaded, we realized there was absolutely no need to be worried, with the only thing the worse for wear being some of the fresh spices we packed (I know, I know, packing fresh spices for a transcontinental move was almost certainly not a good idea). While Shleppers is definitely not a cut-rate shipping company, I have absolutely no reservations about recommending them wholeheartedly. Seriously, these guys are professional through and through and are the first call I make before my next move.

Baker Wiles was excellent in arranging the move. The pick up movers were fast, professional and very courteous. We did have a problem with the delivery of our belongings from LA to Santa Fe. We were told the night before movers were supposed to be here at about 11am. They arrived at 9:30 PM. and didn't finish until 2:30 AM. And it took them 5 hours to unload with us having to unwrap 90% of the furniture and build beds ourselves. It seemed for every 2 pieces unloaded there was a 10 minute lull before they unloaded the next item. Why would it take 5 hours to unload the stuff without unwrapping when it took only 4 hours to pack and load up in 2 separate locations.

I had a great experience with this company. I contacted them last minute and yet they were able to work me into their schedule on short notice and handle my move. My crew, Eddie & Justin, were great. They also are very responsive with phone calls and are easy to reach--seems like a good company to know about. After my move I hired them about a week later to help me move things around the house and dispose of some items I should have let go a long time ago.

I just moved moved from Pasadena to Santa Monica and hired Shleppers to do the move. I spoke with several other companies to gauge their capabilities and to price out. The Shleppers rep was very professional and the proposal was very reasonable. The movers came on time, packed my belongings thoroughly, used blankets to add another layer of protection on delicate furniture, were polite and always responded with a smile. I highly recommend and would use again.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Shleppers has great options for all budgets. Two things we do that make our prices terrific and that make Shleppers special as a moving company: 1. We offer FLAT BINDING PRICES, so this is great if you are worried about how long the move will take. 2. Variable Prices, where some days are at lower rates than others so we can meet more customers' needs.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We take your origin address and destination address to determine what services you need (local vs long distance). For Local Jobs, we can quote you hourly or a flat price based on your move requirements. For Long Distance Jobs, we can do the same, or offer an in-home estimate with one of our professional estimators.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our owner has a Masters in Business Administration and a degree in Cognitive philosophy, and the business is held to very high, professional standards. Our movers are constantly reviewed, with surveys sent to every customer after the move. We also call customers during the moves to insure all is going well. We have many systems in place to ensure quality control.
