About
I make music lessons fun and rewarding for students preschool through age 17! I am a credentialed music teacher with 30 years' experience teaching in schools, churches, and my private studio--Piano, Voice, Guitar, Songwriting, Performance Skills, and more! I believe in each student's potential and help each one achieve excellence in music and enjoy the process! I keep the lessons challenging but fun with lots of encouragement and instruction designed perfectly to meet each student's needs and interests. Students participate in several recitals each year, and they learn to enjoy sharing their musical gifts in talent shows, school and church programs, and with friends and family. I make sure all students learn to read music and understand how music is written (theory). We also enjoy learning about composers and music history. Every lesson I teach is a fun experience that pays off in enjoyment of music, increased creativity, and improvement in the skills needed for accomplishment in school.

Lela is truly a teacher at heart, not just somebody who knows a lot about piano! I would recommend her to students of all ages because she works to understand you so that she can adjust the lessons to meet your aspirations. Not to mention she is one of the kindest people you will ever meet! I am grateful to have connected with her and very excited to see what I can accomplish with her help.

Our two daughters have been taking piano and voice lessons for three years with Lela. We couldn't be more pleased with the quality of instruction and the progress that our two daughters have made. Lela is very professional and thorough in her approach. She makes lessons fun for the girls as well. I recommend Lela to anyone that is thinking of starting their children with music lessons!

My son worked with Lela for 6 years:first as a voice coach and then also as a piano teacher. Lela’s teaching helped my son learn a strong foundation in both voice and piano. Lela helped guide his voice through the puberty years and gave him an appreciation of the classics. Anytime he had an audition , Lela always worked on helping my son both chose a song and really perfect it. She also organized recitals several times a year to provide her students with a chance to showcase their talents. We feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a talented and patient teacher.

Lela is definitely the best piano teacher I ever had. It is such pleasure to study piano with her for a half year. She is a patient, kind and well taught teacher. During six months learning, I became more proficient in piano playing and learned professional music theories! I sincerely wish that we can continue piano class after the coronavirus crisis. Hope for the best!

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Children pre-K through age 7 need 30 minute lessons. Children age 8- need 45 minute voice lessons and 30-45 minute piano and guitar lessons. The fee for a 30-minute lesson is $30. The fee for 45-minute lessons is $40. Families with three or more children receive a discounted rate. All fees are due at the first lesson of the month. All missed lessons will be rescheduled. Your child will always be given personalized and outstanding instruction!
Adult singers need 60 minute lessons, and adult instrumental students need 45-60 minutes. The fee for an hour lesson is $50.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step in vocal instruction is discovering the student's natural voice. Students then learn to practice age-appropriate vocal exercises, breathing technique, pronunciation and placement, and songs in a variety of styles. In preparing for recitals, students learn memorization strategies and performance skills. Later they learn how to prepare for auditions and performances and how to care for their voices.
Piano, guitar, and other instrumental students will be assessed to determine their level of accomplishment, unless they are beginners. An interesting curriculum in a variety of styles will be provided as a basis for learning to read music. I also teach each student music theory and songwriting.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a credentialed music teacher with a K-12 teaching credential. I teach voice, piano, guitar, ukelele, band instruments, and songwriting. I also enjoy teaching preschool music.
