FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $30 per half hour, and recommend one 30 minute lesson per week for younger students and one hour lesson per week for adults. I also offer a discount where my first lesson with any new student is only $20 per half hour or $40 per hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For a first lesson with a new student, we usually talk for a bit about what kind of music the student likes, what they’re interested in learning, and what experience they already have. From there we’ll begin learning material based on what the student enjoys and where they want to go on their instrument (for a classical piano student, scales and repertoire; for a jazz guitar student, theory, improvisation and reading a lead sheet; for kids and young beginners, simple songs from movies, tv or video games they enjoy.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied jazz at Virginia Commonwealth University, have been a professional musician for five years and a professional teacher for three. As a teenager I also played professionally around Washington DC, playing in jazz trios at local clubs, restaurants, and even a couple of shows at the Kennedy Center.
