The money I have invested with the service was beyond worth it. My domestic violence case did not go to the higher court and not only that it was dismissed on the atty's hearing. The attorney was very professional and she took care and approached my case holistically. She does not only wants to get the case resolved but she makes sure you are comfortable and that you will gain back your self confidence after the wreckage you have been through with life. She is very smart and very mindful person as she is concern not only with the case, but with the client's itself too. Overall I really loved the service. And i would recommend it to all others who has criminal cases, whether it is small or big.

Robert was a truly professional and comforting attorney. From beginning to end, he made me feel like a priority and not just a money pit. He would take my calls at any time, even on the weekends, which not all attorneys would do. He way he handled himself in the courtroom was like a well oiled machine. I contacted him about my case approximately a week before I was due in court and even with such short notice, he took it with no hesitation. I was thoroughly impressed with how prepared he was, especially with only a week to get situated. The fight for my daughter quickly became in my favor thanks to Robert. I appreciate everything he did and still continues to do for me. I would absolutely recommend his services to anyone searching for legal representation.

If you are searching for a bankruptcy lawyer or just considering filing for bankruptcy, you need to call Jennifer Jones. I wasn't sure if I should even consider bankruptcy, but I called Jennifer for a consultation on what it entails. Not only did she answer all of my questions accurately and honestly, but she educated me on other positive aspects of filing that I had not known. After hiring her, every time I had a question or concern, she got back to me within minutes via email, text, or phone call. One of the most efficient and hardworking people I have ever met. She showed that she truly cared about me and my situation, and is extremely knowledgeable about the bankruptcy laws. During your search for bankruptcy lawyers you will find cheaper lawyers, but trust me, it's not worth it. It is totally worth paying just a little extra to hire Jennifer because she takes you by the hand and walks you through the very complex and complicated process of filing for bankruptcy. Thank you so much, Jennifer!

Men of quality and integrity. They cared about the most minute details that others would skip past. They really took the time to listen. They spoke and stood by their words till the very end. You can tell that they care about you and that it’s not just about the money. I was involved in a car accident where I was rear ended so hard that my head slammed into the steering wheel and my back was killing me. Simon and Joseph took the time to help me find the best medical care for my needs. The insurance company made pathetic settlement offers and these guys took them to court and put them in their place. Safe to say that the results were impeccable. Highly recommended! If I could give them 10 stars, I would! Compass Law Group has the Best Personal Injury Attorneys in town!!!

Maury is an exceptional and meticulous attorney. My case involved custody and guardianship of my biological daughter across two states. I tried a number of attorneys only to be told that they couldn’t help, wouldn’t help, or nothing could be done before I could finish explaining my situation. From the onset Attorney Mills listened to my situation and not only told me he would assist me with my case, but he took the time to show and explain the laws covering my situation and also explained all of the outcomes that were possible. Never once did he promise an outcome of the case, but guaranteed he would work his hardest and that he did without exception. Throughout the entire case Maury maintained constant contact with me keeping me informed of the next step while giving me a current status. Never once did I feel that my case, daughter, or I was not his top priority. I recommend Attorney Maury Mills with the highest possible endorsement one can give. Maury was a blessing to my family and I.

I talked to several attorneys before hiring Laureen but they seemed to be guessing on what to do. Laureen knew exactly what to do and it was done fast and professionally. Thanks Laureen.

OUTSTANDING ATTORNEY I had dealt with more than 4 attorneys that cost me dearly. Some got me into worse trouble than what I started with! However, Eric Ridley saved me from the dreaded debt collector. He settled 2 credit card accounts with over $13,700 of debt. My payment to the creditor: ZERO dollars. In addition, he got the creditor to dismiss both lawsuits against me with prejudice. This is the best experience I have ever had with any attorney. Thanks, Eric for your great work and excellent results. It’s comforting to know, I have Eric Ridley to go to for all my consumer debt legal needs.

What a great experience I had working with Jonathan Vaknin on my Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. He is professional, attentive and very thorough. His experience and knowledge shows in all aspects of what he does. He really knows the law and what he is doing but what sets him apart is his warmth and understanding of his clients needs. I believe that anything needing an attorney can be stressful but he walked me through each step and made me feel supported the whole way through. He explained every detail and was extremely patient. His pricing was very reasonable especially for the time and attention that he gave to me and my case. I didn’t think that I would ever say that I would trust an attorney like “family” however in the case of Jonathan Vaknin I definitely do!

The Glendale PD does not tolerate too- too much especially, the biker ones. I got a DUI near Glendale and South Pasadena with a little bit more on me than just some beer. I was expecting the hammer to come down especially for my second time but all- in all the experience was not that bad looking back. I panicked at first. I thought I was banned from everything and was about to lose everything (which is common in Los Angeles so). None of that mattered because Elon Berk and Dmitry Gurovich are tough criminal defense attorneys. They pleaded my case and I received a far lesser sentencing than what all of my friends and family ever expected. Before court them and their office staff were easy to talk to and get along with. Mr. Gurovich is more than a genius and he was my lead defense lawyer. He is wonderful and I highly recommend him and the entire defense firm.

I was very impressed with Spolin Law, and in particular with the main lawyer Aaron Spolin. He is smart, well spoken, knew the law, and he got a great result for me! I definitely would have lost my job if it weren't for him. Thank you guys! Also, a side note, I had used a different attorney before but the woman would basically never call me back. Not so with Mr Spolin. He always called me back promptly, which was a big deal. I'm endeared to them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
