About
My degree from Stanford & prior role as COO of a tech startup is evidence of the quality of the level of education & capability I share with my students, but more importantly, I understand from my own experiences studying 11+ languages that learning a language is easier when the motivation is made more personal, and the experience utilizes multiple senses. For this reason, I offer 100% customized on-on-one classes for each and every student, and project and "field trip" studies where helpful, as well.
I most enjoy working with professionals and their families, brought to the Bay Area for work, who are eager to improve their English vocabulary, pronunciation or conversational skills, and would also appreciate having a resource for all things relating to assimilating to the Bay Area and/or exploring the numerous treasures it holds - and my goal is for students to leave not only with more confidence and a better grasp of the English Language, and US/Bay Area culture, but also with the comfort of knowing that once you've completed your studies with me I welcome you to stay connected so that you will ALWAYS have a resource for ALL things "American".
Please know that I live and work out of Pleasanton, and you must be able and willing to travel to the area.

Mika is an excellent tutor.
Both field trips and sitting sessions are very useful to improve my English skill.
I have been also learning many things like American culture, business and lifestyle in Bay Area.

Mika is a really good person!!
She's easy to talk to no matter what your conversation level, and very thoughtful and supportive.
I've not only been able to improve my English but also got to experience American culture while practicing typical English conversation.
I feel very lucky to have met her.
She'd be happy to help you improve your English while exploring the Bay Area, too, I'm sure.

Mika is the most fun and helpful ESL teacher I have ever met. When I first came to the U.S. six years ago, my children and I could hardly speak English at all. She helped children with school assignments and helped them improve their English. When I was in need, she helped me emotionally and practically as well as English. Her biggest advantage is that she teaches comfortably and pleasantly. So my children and I enjoyed talking to her in English even if it was not perfect. Also, I was able to experience English and culture vividly while doing field trips with her. Above all, the English class with her was always fun and practical. She's the best ESL teacher and coolest friend I've ever met in America.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first class is an introductory session, where:
I get to know a bit about you, and answer questions you have for me. We discuss goals, and determine together what resources or style of class might best help you meet your English Language Improvement goals, and we move forward from there...
If you're unsure about your goals, or don't have a particular style of class in mind, don't worry! I will discuss options with you, and we will work together to decide which option (or combination of options) will work best for you!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Stanford Education, 30+ years of utilizing English at high levels and a history of successfully working with over 70 students in the last 2 years, alone - many of whom continued classes for a year or more, and most of whom I continue to be in contact with, and am a resource for, still today.
