Harvey G. says, "I recently had Air Quality Pros USA clean my dryer vent. On the good side, their service rep Isaac did excellent work in a timely manner and my dryer, which was previously taking up to three cycles to dry loads, is now drying most loads in one cycle. On the bad side, when drying a load of clothes the next day,, my daughter found a loose screw in the dryer. I checked the plastic component inside the dryer, which attaches to the lint screen, and found a screw missing from the right side, suggesting Isaac had not properly tightened it. Also, while I negotiated the price down, the $350 I paid for the work was too much, but I wanted to address the problem when Isaac was at my house, so I agreed to that price. That price included $100 to also clean the dryer too. Isaac did a good job taking the dryer apart and reassembling it (except for the aforementioned screw) but he really didn’t find any significant lint in the dryer. Mostly he just found dust. Thus, unless you think your dryer may be full of lint, you probably don’t need to clean it. Just clean the duct, where 99% of the lint resides. Air Quality Pro’s scheduling rep specifically asked me to review Air Quality Pros USA on the Thumbtack app. I agreed to do so and noted I would also leave a review on Yelp. The rep told me they weren’t on Yelp. Wrong. Anyone can leave a review on any company on Yelp. If you go on Yelp and enter Air Quality Pros USA you will find several reviews with an overall average rating of less than 2 out of 5. That begs the question as to why virtually every handyman/contractor on Thumbtack has a 4 to 5 star rating when their Yelp reviews are much lower. Could it be that Thumbtack deletes all reviews customers leave if they’re less than a 4 rating? Just asking."See more

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The average cost to install a fireplace in your home is roughly $400, though some professionals charge as much as $1,500 for fireplace and chimney installation. The type of fireplace you want (gas-burning, wood-burning, electric, etc.) will impact your cost. Let a fireplace installation professional know what type of fireplace you want to install and ask for a free cost estimate.

For more cost information about fireplaces, read “How much does fireplace installation cost?

Yes, you can often put a fireplace in a house that doesn’t have one. An exception to this is if your house doesn’t have a safe place for a fireplace, or if your city or town doesn’t allow fireplaces (or specific types of fireplaces).

Yes, you can consider installing a ventless gas fireplace, which doesn’t require a chimney or flues. However, you’ll need to make sure these are allowed where you live. Contact fireplace installation pros near you to find out if a ventless fireplace is right for you and (if so) get free cost estimates.

A fireplace may or may not add value to your house — it depends on the prospective homeowner and the trends in your real estate market. Many people find fireplaces desirable, but you’ll need to talk to your real estate agent (or an expert) to find out if homebuyers in your area will pay more for a fireplace or if you’ll recoup the costs.
