So the wallpaper installation in my new laundry by Jon came out pretty subpar. The defects I show in the photos are the result of the wall not being prepped properly. Jon told me this after I complained to him about these and other similar defects. He's correct but this answer is not acceptable. Jon should have told me that the wall was not prepped properly before he sealed those defects under the wallpaper. Actually, Jon should have prepped the wall, a light sanding would have fixed it. Now I either have to remove the wallpaper or leave it and live with the defects. I have since learned that Jon is not a licensed wallpaper installer. He is a handyman who applies wallpaper to walls and he assumes the prep work has already been done by someone else. So Caveat Emptor.
My other beef is with Thumbtack. Jon was recommended by Thumbtack. His reviews were all good, though they were few in number. This is the second Caveat Emptor. I guess I’ve learned two lessons from this project. I’m now using a licensed wallpaper installer who is a WIA member and guarantees his work.

Fillip doesn’t really know how things work. I have been a licensed installer for 35 years and have installed wallpaper thousands of times. Sometimes walls need to be worked on prior to installation. This work should be done by a licensed drywall contractor prior to an installer. When I come in, the walls should be ready for wallpaper. Most of the time I hang it on walls that are far less than perfect. Textured, new drywall etc. I talked to him the week before I came and he never talked about the walls needed work to make them perfectly smooth. I gave him a proposal that was for installation ONLY.
I am sorry he is not happy but these were minor issues that can only be seen when a harsh light is on them in a dark room.
He attempted to discredit me by saying I wasn’t licensed. That was not true. I am licensed, bonded, and insured. 99% of my customers are very happy with my work and there is always someone who just doesn’t get it.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is based on the type of job. I am always fairly priced. Gouging is not in my dna.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Customer gives me the details of the project, I respond with a proposal and we go from there.
