FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I often get asked "How did you learn all this? Did you go to school for it?" Yes, my major in college was Management Information Systems, but that wasn't really how I learned all of this. Don't get me wrong, focused classroom learning did help, but it wasn't my primary "classroom". I've had a love of technology from an early age. As a pre-teen my parents got us our first computer and I was hooked. I loved everything about it. I loved making it work to do something neat, I loved the challenge of fixing it when it broke, but most of all I loved seeing others delighted when the computer could do something amazing. That's really how I learned "all of this" about computers. I love seeing people delighted by technology. That desire drives me forward to keep learning more. Technology changes fast and what delighted people 10 or 15 years ago doesn't necessarily delight them today. That keeps me energized to learn more and keep pace with an ever-changing field.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I have a specific set of knowledge about a specific area. You have a specific set of knowledge about your area. I know almost nothing about fixing cars. I know nothing about landscaping. I can't take a decently composed photograph or sing on key to save my life. You might be able to do all those things, but you might not be able to fix a computer. We all have different areas of things we're competent at. Mine happens to be technology. Don't put up with a technology solutions provider that treats you like you're inferior. It doesn't matter how smart they are, they aren't worth it.
