FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My normal hourly rate for legal work is $350/hour for full representation, $200/hour for Consults for my Thumbtack family, and $300/hour for mediation. I bill by the tenth of an hour, and I bill for every contact, whether by text, email, phone or letter. However, I bill honestly, and send out detailed accountings of my billings. Never hire a lawyer who won't. For Domestic Violence survivors, I tend to discount my rates somewhat. And I have been known to work for barter.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always like to start with a Consultation. This gives both me and the client an opportunity to get to know each other. I also try to map out different ways that the client can accomplish their goals, depending upon their resources. If I feel that the client can handle the majority of the work alone, I do not hesitate to make referrals to community agencies that are free or low cost. If, after meeting with me, the client feels they want representation, I am happy to work with them. But I always make certain that my clients know what other options are available to them in the community.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I do all the required continuing education to keep my law license every year, and I also take additional classes in family violence and non-violent communication every chance I get.
