Introduction: It's extremely fulfilling. There is no greater feeling, than the one I get after I leave a tutoring session and the tutor-ee (and their family) are glowing with accomplishment. :) My favorite and most memorable tutoring session is with a 4th grader named Saima. Saima is a brilliant child, however she was having trouble pacing herself with her sessions. Her mother was frustrated and overwhelmed, as she had 2 other children with homework to help too. I came in and helped Saima who was 4-5 weeks behind catch up with her class in three 5-8 sessions. Saima not only finished her work correctly, but felt empowered and confident in her abilities. Her mother, was extremely proud. It made the whole family happy, so it made me happy!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I decided to tutor people because I remembered how helpful it was to have an older brother or sister type help me out with my work when I was younger. However, I realized not everyone can afford the tutoring services my mother paid for [at Sylvan learning center that I went to]. I envisioned a cheap but quality tutoring service, and that's what I put together and now provide to the public.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If a tutor isn't willing to do a free session there's something desperately wrong with their service in my opinion. People should let their work speak for them, a free session is a great way to show a client what you're capable of and why they should hire you.
