Introduction: My father was a veterinarian so I grew up in that environment and worked at the family practice for years. I always make sure any dog I work with is not exhibiting behaviors due to pain, medical issues or stress before I put a training program into place. I have worked with dogs who refused to sit, but instead of forcing them to sit, "because we say so" I check them out to see if sitting was painful, and in several cases it was. Knowing when something is a training issue, and when it is not is important, a lot of trainers do not take these things into consideration. I know because I have mentored so many trainers over the years and I see it every day. I have learned from veterinary animal behaviorists as well as top trainers all over the country. I have been the training director and lead behavior specialists for a very large company for many years. Putting a protocol together that works for the owner not just the dog and trainer is very important. Also knowing the breed you are working with is very important as well. I have had the pleasure of working with many rare breeds as well as many rescues. I currently volunteer as a behavior specialists with 2 rescues here in San Diego. What I like most about my job is that dogs close the gaps we have between humans. I have worked with men, women, professionals, artists, students, military families, life partners, and so many different cultures. People from every walk of life share the same bond with our dogs. Dogs help people with disabilities, major health issues, and emotional trauma all lead better lives. They enrich our lives and impact us is so many positive ways with their ability to forgive and unconditional love. Working with that bond in a beautiful thing to see. I love that I have learned to teach dogs to sit, down and stay in so many different languages over the years. And the dogs all love and learn no matter what language we are speaking to them. I have trained with people who speak, Korean, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Lebanese, and many more. And not surprisingly the dogs learn the language faster then I do! lol
