FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've worked in Rescue for eight years now, and am no stranger to acting as a foster mom. If you look at the dogs that wind up at a shelter closely you'll realize that a lot of them have one thing in common; They lack basic manners and obedience. My hope is that by tackling the problem at it's source I can help to save at least a few animals from winding up back at the shelter.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Anxiety, over excitement, fear aggression, leash aggression, socialization, potty training.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
FInd a trainer whose training style matches your needs and goals. Consider behavior modification methods: A fearful dog will only become more fearful in the face of positive punishment methods. Likewise, positive punishment can serve to exacerbate aggression issues. Consider teaching styles: If you have performance anxiety, speak to your trainer on the phone or set up a consultation to see how you feel with them. Look for someone who offers a lot of positive feedback. If you like clear direction choose someone with a good degree of confidence.
