FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Since the area of teaching and assessment is undergoing an entire revision to the Common Core as a national movement, I have had to learn the new standards and strategies for teaching and assessing them. If i was not in the business, I feel I would have been "left in the dust" and would have no clue as to this new trend in education. Because of my work, I have been able to keep current and educated about this exciting new way of educating our students.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
It was a dream while I was teaching to pursue it as a second career. Coincidentally, a friend who left the teaching profession pursued her doctorate and then entered the field of educational assessment. She hired me as a consultant for editing. Ultimately that led to becoming an assessment writer as well.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
When I retired, the local retired teachers' association sent me a newsletter in an attempt to get me to join. It was badly written, badly formatted, and there was a small note in the corner that they needed an editor. The newsletter had no phone number and no email address with which to contact anybody! I tracked them down and offered my services. At first, I edited the individual articles and sent them to someone else who formatted the newsletter. When he wanted to turn that responsibility over to me, I was more than happy to accept. I completely reformatted the newsletter and it is now a sharp and classy document that is more accessible to senior readers and is more attractive as well.
