About
My name is Erik Frank. I hold a BA in Music: Jazz and World Studies with an Emphasis on Guitar Performance from San Francisco State University, and I have been teaching guitar and bass since I was 16 years old — starting with guitar classes at my local recreation center. That’s over 20 years of teaching experience and a genuine passion for helping people find their voice on the instrument.
Over the years I have performed with bands including Thea the Band, Sunrise Company, and Harmonica John, bringing real-world musicianship into every lesson I teach.
I specialize in working with adult beginners — people who have always wanted to play but never knew where to start. My students don’t sit through boring exercises. From day one you’re playing music, building real skills, and actually enjoying the process.
I teach online using FarPlay, a platform built specifically for music lessons that eliminates lag and delivers crystal clear sound. It feels just like being in the same room — without the commute.
⭐ “I have learned more with Erik in a short time than I did in years of trying on my own. The fact that he teaches online makes scheduling super easy too.” — Zoe S.
⭐ “Erik is patient, encouraging, and knowledgeable. He breaks things down into simple, manageable steps so it never feels overwhelming.” — Tom H.
I teach Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz, Folk, Pop, R&B, and more on both guitar and bass. I have been on Thumbtack since 2022 with 34 five-star reviews and many of my students have been with me for years.

I’ve had a great experience learning with Erik. He is patient, encouraging, and really knows how to break things down in a way that makes everything feel achievable. Each lesson is well‑structured and tailored to what I want to learn. I’ve made steady progress and feel more confident every week, although a European tour still a few years away. I highly recommend Erik to anyone looking to grow as a guitarist.

Eric has been my guitar teacher for over a year and has been great every step of the way. He is patient and understanding. Makes sure to explain things in detail and keeps every lesson fun. He has always been flexible with my changing schedule. I would recommend to anyone getting started with guitar or looking to advance their skills.

Erik’s lessons are fun the whole time. He is patient, a good listener, explains concepts well, and the right amount of homework to practice. Erik is mindful on what to teach me, learning my skill level pretty quickly, so the class is efficient; which I appreciate.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$60/hr $50/45min $40/30min. I give discounts for monthly packages.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First thing I do is take a quick assessment of where my students are at. I then start them with something fairly basic and see how they do. This dictates what pace I can work with my students on. From there I set up building blocks to provide a strong foundation for my student’s musical journey.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in music from SFSU and 2 decades teaching experience.
