- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It starts with a quick, free conversation about your student, their goals, their current level, and their schedule. From there we match them with the tutor on our team who best fits what they need, and your student's first session is free. Alternatively, you're welcome to browse our network of tutors and pick out one you like and book your first free session right from our website. For academic tutoring we jump right in on whatever they are working on and adjust each session to their pace. For SAT or ACT prep we usually begin with a practice test to pinpoint exactly where the points are, then build a personalized plan and focus each session on the highest-impact areas, reassessing as we go. Everything is 1-on-1 and online, scheduled around school and activities.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 20 years of experience as a teacher and private tutor for students ranging from kindergarten all the way through graduate school. I've taught and tutored all levels of math as well as high school and intro undergraduate courses in physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, finance, accounting, economics, and engineering. I also have about 15 years of experience coaching students in the SAT and ACT. The majority of my SAT students improve by 150-300 points, and ACT by 3-7 points, although some of improved by even more. I founded High Performance Tutoring in 2011 with the mission to give students access to highly qualified tutors and test prep coaches and provide ongoing academic support. Beyond my own background, what I am proudest of is our team at High Performance Tutoring. We hire only the top 5% of tutors who apply. Every tutor is carefully vetted for both subject mastery and the ability to actually teach it, and they are background-checked before they ever work with a student. Many bring years of experience with the SAT, ACT, and the specific math/science courses students need help with.
