I hired Jasper from My Apartment Is Better Than Yours. I think they did a terrific job at a very reasonable price. I'm really pleased that I decided to go with them. I had a number of unusual carpentry tasks to complete when I moved to my new place. The windows were old and the wood was irregular and moldy, so the wood around the antique glass panels needed to be replaced. I was told those windows hadn't been opened in 40 years, but now they work perfectly and you'd never know the wood wasn't original. Also, several doorways lacked doors when I moved in, and were unusual rounded shapes cut into the stucco without doorframes. Jasper was able to make me custom doors with antique iron-wrought handles, and they look awesome. I also needed threshholds worked on, cabinets put up, new benches made for my roof deck, a custom projector and screen put in, antique chandeliers installed, a lock repaired... and I'm probably forgetting one or two things. They are in the process of putting the finishing touches on my humidor (they had to build me custom legs for it), and it's going to look spectacular. Anyway, they knocked it all out of the park. They were prompt and clean and didn't cause much of a disturbance despite all the work they were doing. They'll be my go-to for anything I need done in the future. I definitely recommend them.

Kirk and his team performed an interior remodel and a new garage build for my house from January 2011 to July 2011. I am satisfied with Kirk’s work. He is very experienced in new constructions and remodels. He did a very good job for a very good price. Kirk also gave me lots of free extras at his expense. In March 2010 I purchased a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom house in Union City, California. The house was in good structural condition, but as a foreclosured unit, it needed some rehabilitation. The original detached garage was in poor condition; it was badly damaged by termites and water. My intent was to have the detached garage demolished and completely rebuilt from the ground up. I planned on doing interior renovation at a later time. I found Kirk from craigslist and he had a link to his Thumbtack page. I called him and he came by to give me an estimate. He said he could give me a really good deal on a new garage and do an interior remodel for a little more than what I would have paid for the garage alone. Kirk was really enthusiastic about doing my job, much more so than the other contractors I had come to give me a bid. Kirk also had very good ideas about modernizing the interior. He suggested a bar counter between my kitchen and dining area. He would also turn my empty utility rooms into a master bedroom and master bathroom. And he wanted to create a laundry machine closet. Kirk had an architect draw the construction plans; his architect did a really nice job. He submitted it to the city as part of the permit application process. I wanted the work done with all permits so everything would be by the book. It would also help should I decide to sell the house at a later date. Kirk started out on the interior work first. He demolished the old kitchen and utility room. He built a new kitchen, a master bedroom, a master bathroom, a laundry machine closet, and a small coat closet by the front door. Kirk said he could also do a couple more things to the interior. He would do the labor for cheap if I paid for the materials. So I agreed and Kirk also replaced my front door, front window, and sliding glass door. He also remodeled my fireplace and fixed a bunch of broken things in my original bathroom. Kirk also completely rewired the house. The original wiring was a dangerous mess, a potential fire hazard. The interior work was completed towards the end of April 2011 and all the work was approved by the city inspector. It looked really nice. I received many compliments from friends and family. I am fairly picky with details and I did notice a couple flaws with fit and finish. I pointed out them out to Kirk. He and his workers did fix them. The garage work started immediately afterwards. The old garage was not worth saving so it was demolished and hauled away. The original foundation was unusable. So Kirk jackhammered it out. Kirk poured a new heavy-duty foundation onto an extensive frame of rebar. He tied it into the house foundation. Then he framed the new oversized 510 square foot garage. Kirk added a storage attic with a pull-down ladder. Kirk also poured a new driveway that looked excellent. Kirk added a 50 amp subpanel to the garage. He also gave me a bunch of free extras like wall insulation. Kirk also used roof panels coated with an aluminum heat reflective substance. The garage was completed by the end of July 2011. It looked really nice. Like the interior, I also received compliments from friends and family. The above garage attic storage with the pull-down ladder was really useful. The garage also passed city inspection. There were also a few issues with fit and finish in the garage. Kirk fixed the problems that I pointed out. While the garage was being built, Kirk also repaired my patio awning and side perimeter fence. He did an excellent job on them. One lady even drove by, stopped, and complimented on how nice the outside looks. I am overall satisfied with Kirk’s work. He really transformed my house. Since everything was done with permits, I now have a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house on county and city records. If you want to see his work on my house, ask Kirk to give you my phone number.

John is the best! He is reasonable, reliable and able to improvise. He does great work and will always go that extra step; he's a real detail man (he'e more of a perfectionist than you will ever dream of being). Painting, windows, light electrical, deck and fence repair, replace shower doors, assemble install Ikea armoires and washing machines, replace front door, super patching and matching texture, drainage repair--intuitively understands what you want done. (our PG&E bills have been cut in half since he tightened up all of our house's loose spots) John will get your job done, on time and at a lot less than you'd expect.

*Warning long winded, but detailed review* True pleasure working with this professional. I had a whole house fan project which was going to be tricky logistically, as my home is designed a bit differently. He was able to advise me of the best way to have the fan installed, took time to show me the condition of my attic and gave a very accurate assessment of the time it would take to complete the project. And while that may not seem extraordinary, he did all that via video call as I was unable to leave my place of business in time to meet him at my home in time! (Wife was home to let him in.) His expertise was on display as he improvised and thought through future maintenance accesibilities during the install. I really appreciated that because in the event of equipment failure, the time and associated costs to reach, then service my units components would have been a challenge if installed in a typical way. At the end of the job, he stayed to help me configure and troubleshoot a wifi component that I purchased to work with the fan which was great to have two minds address the not so user friendly setup. He made sure to clean up the work area and listened to me as I asked for his opinion on other household repairs I would like to tackle next. Which brings me to the final and most impressive part of my experience. He noticed an eve on the house that was leaning and inquired about it. I showed him a similar issue with the backyard awning which I thought looked bad and should be replaced eventually. After he looked at it, he demonstrated why it wasn't just ugly - but dangerous! Without asking or upcharging, he got his ladder and a few lagbolts and secured a part of the awning just enough to ensure safety until I could get it fully repaired. I cant recommend his services enough to anyone out there needing his wide range of services. I will be working with him on all of my home and business projects to come. Great experience and job well done!

We had our granite kitchen countertops fabricated by Imperial. Everyone & everything about Imperial is great! From Jeanne, to Rick, to Val, to Eli, to the installers...service was absolutely wonderful! We would be considered as a high maintenance customer (sorry guys!)...we couldn't make up our minds, and once we did, we changed our minds. They had to pull off our stone from production (almost twice!) because of our indecisiveness. All throughout the process, they were all so patient and understanding. They made recommendations to better assist us in making the "right" decision, and really took the time to help us understand different areas of the process. They tried multiple possibilities to try and achieve what we wanted (which turned out to be impossible...again, high-maintenance!!), but I appreciate that they went so out of their way to try every way possible to give us what we wanted. They have a very clean and professional fabrication area, with the newest stone cutting and edging machines. We had a chance to see it in action. They have a small lot of granite to choose from, but they work with a large stone importer, so the selection is endless. They are also authorized to do Caesartone, Zodiac, Silestone, etc.... The templating and installation was perfect, and very professional. Rick did an awesome job with the template. The installers installed our countertops in about 2-3 hrs, and everything went smooth. The under-mount sink and faucet holes where perfectly placed. There was a small chip on the granite (bar counter), but they where able to repair it, and it looks good as new. I would highly recommend them for service alone. But after we had our countertops installed, I can also recommend them for the quality of their workmanship! The countertops are finally in and they look great! They also gave us an awesome price. Thanks to everyone @ Imperial, especially Jeanne!

We had a problem with a leaking window in our home. We contacted several contractors and received bids for the work. We chose Barton Builders based on the quality of the bid, the price and the discussions we had with Steve Barton about the job. The window is 10' by 5' and is over 30' in the air and there is no easy access to that side of the house. Steve brought in a scaffold contractor who had to lift the scaffold over the house and erect a 3 story structure in order to reach the window. At all times Steve worked with the sub-contractor to make sure that the work was performed safely and properly. Upon beginning the demo phase of removing the old window, a serious amount of water damage was discovered. This required the removal of a large section of the back wall of the house and the repair of the structural damage. Steve worked with us on costing the work and scheduling the work so that there was minimal impact on the overall job. Steve had a copper flashing fabricated for the new window to insure that it would never leak again. The window is of excellent quality. The stucco repair, exterior painting, and interior dry wall repair were all accomplished on schedule and on budget and were of excellent quality. Steve is great to work with and listens to what you have to say. I would certainly use Steve again if the need arises and would recommend him to anyone looking for a solid contractor.
