About
Ahoy! I'm a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Masters in Composition, and I've been teaching piano and composition for the better part of 10 years in the Bay Area, residing in the Sunset District of San Francisco. I teach all ages and levels, utilizing various proven techniques along with incorporating fun games and activities to make lessons interactive and memorable. I also host "Studio Class" once a month for all my students where we perform our piano pieces for each other in a low-pressure environment, allowing frequent performance opportunities to develop confidence on stage. It's a fun event held at my place where we serve food and drink and play fun musical games after performances. The kiddos love it! For piano students, I use Faber Piano Adventures, as I find the material enjoyable and well-paced. For beginning/early intermediate music theory, I use "Practical Theory" by Sandy Feldstein. For more advanced theory, I'll prescribe a text based on the student's abilities. Let me know if you have any questions or would like to set up a trial lesson with me!

I’ve been going to jeff for a couple months and as a complete beginner in my 20’s he has really been able to improve my playing. He’s also really patient and has great exercises during his sessions. Not only does he teach you how to play but he’s also very knowledgeable on the history of the piano. After every session he gives out a lesson to practice at home. I would highly recommend him if you truly want to learn how to play the piano.

Jeff is an engaging teacher and does a great job of teaching the core parts of music theory that are often neglected in music classes.

Jeff has been teaching my son piano for about 3 years now, and we have nothing but positive things to say about him! He’s great with kids and is clearly very passionate about music.

Jeff Peterson has a gift for recognizing where a student is as a musician, and finding creative, fun ways to help students achieve a higher standard of musicianship. He's impeccably professional, very responsive, and an excellent musician. It's been a pleasure working with him.
