Introduction: The most fulfilling part of being a teacher is leaving your students feeling more capable and empowered than they were before. I'm not satisfied if you're not satisfied, so you can trust that I will bring my best to every lesson. I've been teaching piano in San Francisco for three years now (and teaching trumpet for 10+) and have my masters in music composition from San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have specialized training in piano technique and pedagogy because of teaching at different professional studios throughout the bay area. I integrate movement and games to bring energy into each lesson and create memorable experiences for ages 5+. I focus on training these aspects: • Literacy (fluency in being able to read music) • Skill-Building Mindset and Tools • Music Theory • Ear-Training • Technique • Music Appreciation • Improvisation and composition

Our 4 and 6 year olds love taking piano lessons with Ms. Roxanne. They are learning music fundamentals, how to read music, and a love of playing the piano. Ms. Roxanne motivates them, and mixed things up to help keep them focused. She has also been very pandemic safe, and even did masked lessons on our keyboard in the backyard! Here she is playing a game with a nerf gun to review notes and rests, with my pirate-costume-clad child.

My kids have been taking lessons (guitar and piano) with Roxanne for a few months now. Roxanne is very enthusiastic and excited to teach music which helps my kids stay engaged. I have seen so much progress in their ability to read notes and play their instrument. Thanks Roxanne!

Roxanne has been teaching our 8 year old son piano for a year and a half. She is an amazing teacher with a lot of patience and uses creative ways to keep younger kids engaged and focused. She teaches technique and theory and has fun games that she does with her students. Her remote/zoom music lessons have proven to be as beneficial as in person and she continues to challenge our son to learn and enjoy the piano.

I have been pursuing classes with Roxanne for about a couple of months now and the experience has been amazing. I'm an adult learner and started learning Piano, in the little time I have outside of work, with the Alfred's series. Roxanne structured the classes beautifully to fit alongside the series that I was already following and then extending the periphery with music theory, ear training and practicing songs that I wanted to learn. In the little time, I've started my classes with Roxanne - I can construct scales and write small songs on my own - this in little over two months. I can't wait for my toddler to join the class as soon as he's 3(he's a little over 2 now). I highly recommend Roxanne to young and adult learners alike. She's thorough, professional and an excellent teacher.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge monthly. If you're feeling sick, especially considering these COVID-19 times, I will not charge you for a last minute cancel. I pro-rate over the holidays. Accidental miss that is not due to emergency, injury, or illness will not be refunded (honors system). Sliding scale of 200-250 per month. I charge more to travel.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I get to know their background with music, what they're interested in getting out of lessons, and then I use this information to determine what books and approach are best to try out.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Bachelor of Arts (Music). Master in Music Composition. I auditioned on piano for my Composition studies program at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, with the repertoire including one of my own pieces. I played trumpet in various genres for 17 years all throughout school as well as professionally and I continue to play. I am happy to email you a resumé.
