Hi, I’m Patricia Babin. I’m a retired biochemist with a PhD in biochemistry. I passionately love teaching students. In the summer, I teach pre-algebra and algebra 1. During the school year I also tutor honors and AP chemistry and biology.
Last year I had an unusual opportunity. A local private school urges advanced students who are taking honors chemistry to study independently for the AP chemistry exam. A group of 11 students from the school hired me to teach them AP chemistry. The students did extremely well on the AP exam: 3 of the students scored a 5 on the AP exam, 5 of the students scored a 4 on the AP exam and 3 of the students scored a 3 on the AP exam. I taught them AP chemistry focusing on the concepts that the test focuses on because those are the concepts students need to know in order to be prepared for college chemistry and to be prepared for the exam. I can help your son and daughter do well on the AP chemistry exam.
I’ve been tutoring for the past 9 years and I won awards for teaching while I was in graduate school. If you think all online education is the same, think again and be sure to read my reviews on this website. I tried multiple platforms to find what worked best for my students and didn’t stop until I found something great. I've invested in the equipment and software necessary for smooth, online tutoring. For my students, it's as if I'm in the classroom with them, writing on a whiteboard. That's really important - I want them focused on the concepts - not distracted by problems with online learning!! All of my students receive a pdf copy of the whiteboard we worked on during their session within 5 minutes of the end of our session. Also, if you'd like, I can record the lesson so that your student can listen to the lesson again in case they missed anything. I store all their recorded lessons for the entire course. There is no extra charge for this.
I've actually had people say to me that they believed someone with a PhD would be less able to communicate to high school students. They thought a PhD would present concepts at too high a level. The truth is that, if you have a PhD, you better understand the subject matter really well. And if you understand it really well, then you should be able to communicate it in simple terms. I think that's why I'm able to help students so much. I really love my subject matter, I really understand it and I can explain in simple terms.

Dr. Babin worked with my son during his sophomore year on Chemistry and now is tutoring my son for AP Biology. She has done an amazing job of not only filling in the gaps in my son's knowledge but also inspiring him to actually learn the subject. Given her background, she often discusses other career choices and interests with my son which is a huge plus as he tries to figure out his path forward in college. She is extremely kind, professional and an amazing person overall.

Thank you for your kind words, Soumya. I really do enjoy also providing college information and some additional ideas on careers for students who haven't decided on majors. I spent almost all of my adult life either studying, teaching, or doing research in major universities so I certainly know a lot about how they operate, especially in the technical fields and I really enjoy sharing that information with my students. For any parent who might be reading this, I also send out a yearly letter to parents on college planning for colleges that DON'T include loans in their student aid packages. That way, students can leave college without being in debt.

My daughter just finished her first quarter of Chemistry. Having zero understanding of the subject, it was a rocky start for her. We found Patricia , and not only did my daughter's grade improve in the class, she actually understood the information! Patricia had been great and we will be coming back to her for the 3rd quarter, when the class resumes.

Dr. Babin was a terrific help to our daughter. AP Chemistry was definitely feeling daunting for her but with Dr. Babin's help, she was able to take the course head on and do well. Dr. Babin was so thorough and responsive to what was needed. We will be forever grateful for her help!

Thanks, Melissa. It was a real delight to tutor your daughter. I was so delighted to hear from her this summer that she scored 4 on the AP Chemistry Exam. She had such a weak honors chemistry course that we had to study both honors chemistry and AP chemistry at the same time, but she really applied herself and it showed in her success in AP chemistry.
