I have worked with Otis for nearly 7 years in a string quartet. I have seen him teach a wide age range and background of students in many contexts. I have observed Otis giving coachings, lessons, and masterclasses and in all of those settings he flourishes. His teaching style is dynamic, adaptive, and creative. He is very responsive to a student’s needs, and his expertise is shared in a compassionate and patient way. When a tactic may not be resonating with the student, Otis will deftly try fresh approaches. His creative thinking and insight is uniquely rich and engaging, and I highly recommend Otis as a teacher for all ages and levels of violin playing.Sep 23, 2018

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The first lesson I will get to know you and what you are looking for in violin lessons. I will formulate a plan based on your specific needs. Each student is different which necessitates a variety of approaches. One thing I always focus on is teaching violin technique so that playing what you want to play becomes easier over time.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelors of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. (2009-2013) I have performed around the world for 7 years with an internationally recognized string quartet, Friction Quartet. (2011-current)
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I began teaching when I began my conservatory training in 2009. I began teaching because I'm passionate about passing on the expertise I have to others. Teaching is a conduit to better understanding the violin so it has been an important part of my professional life since I first started.
