Clifford is a talented jazz pianist but also a wonderful instructor .He teaches comprehensive piano- jazz, classical and music theory. He makes learning music fun. Some lessons we listen and learn from the masters- such as Bill Evans. Other lessons we play tunes together. Learning music is a long journey- but well worth it.
Kelly Key's was a wonderful addition to our Diversity Potluck! He arrived super early to allow set up time. He had all his own equipment and even a song request booklet! At the start we had to ask him to lower the sound (because we still had people working) which he obliged and was professional about it. If we need another pianist/keyboard guy I will certainly hire him again!
Donna is top notch. She is warm, engaging, encouraging, and teaches from a philosophy that brings piano and music to life. I really appreciate her as both an artist and teacher. I highly recommend her.
Didier played Latin Jazz and more for our fundraiser on a Friday night in Nov at our home. He was on time and professional. Our guest loved the music. One of our guest asked for his information to hire the for an event.
I hired them as a Trio for my military retirement social. A 27 year career in the US Air Force. The social was held at the Travis AFB Heratige Center. It was fantastic! The 40s 50s jazz music set the perfect backdrop for my event, at I had requested a Bassist, Guitarist and Sax but the Sax was not available, the Trombone that filled the Trio worked out great. All my guests loved the even. Thanks Citizens Jazz!
Have been taking clarinet and alto sax lessons with Andrew for years. Great teacher who is a master of his craft and is very dedicated to the progression of his students. Takes the time necessary to really help you learn and perfect all areas. He is very skilled in both jazz and classical and can really help his student develop in whichever way they desire. Would highly recommend to anyone who is serious about learning their instrument.
Margarita P. is a very good professional pianist and even better teacher. The experience i had while with her was excellent and she knows well how to adapt her teachings to each individual student based on their level and personal needs. Further more, she was always on time and with a positive attitude. Thumbs up. Benjamin C.L.
Larisa is a great music teacher that wed love to recommend to anyone who is interested in learning piano. She inspires her students to be not only technical competent, but also artistically focused. Her classes are instrumental and fun. My daughter has been taking piano lessons from Larisa for over 2 years, and she has improved my daughters technical and artistic abilities as well as her overall performance skills. In addition, she is a patient, dedicated, hard-working teacher and is easy to work with. She always is energetic and positive. If you have Larisa as your piano teacher, Im sure that you will definitely be learning well with an excellent teacher.
We love Martin! He is a beautiful pianist and thoughtful teacher. My stepdaughter is learning to read music and play notes on the piano, but she is also learning musicality, elements of theory and training her ear in a way that will serve as a strong foundation for learning about and appreciating music throughout her life. I wish I would have had him as a teacher when I was younger!
I have been studying with Martan for over fifteen years. I have learned so much from him. I would never consider studying with anyone else. Plus he is an excellent jazz pianist. Bev Larsen
My daughter took guitar lessons from Michael for years. He was great and she learned a lot. She played jazz guitar in Albany middle and highschool jazz bands and continues to play in college.
I have been taking lessons with Jack for about a year now. I started with no knowledge... and now I can actually play and understand Jazz guitar!! My friends and family are astonished by how much I have improved -- all thanks to Jack! If you're trying to learn how to play guitar, I would STRONGLY recommend you meet with Jack Eskridge!! He's hands down the best in the Bay Area... if not the World!
Mike is one of the best drummers I've worked with, and I've worked with many. We played both rock and jazz styles. A sensitive player and easygoing so easy to work with.
In a short time had a beginner performing live with a band in front of co-workers at a party. Kevin used many helpful tips and tricks to help me learn the minor and major chords to play.
Jake's Jazz trio played at a friends wedding reception . He was easy to work with. He was very accommodating for song request and has a large repertoire. I would encourage anyone to hire Jake for any venue.
I took voice lessons with Sarah for quite a long time. I was barely trained in jazz vocals. Sarah is a very lovable, ambitious person. Great teacher. She always encouraged me and was very knowledgeable about all things singing. :) I grew so much through our lessons and I still practice her vocal techniques to this day.
I work with what I love to do, playing from classics to the most recent hits on the piano. The piano makes the event special, a classical touch to the music that will be played.
Alex is one in a million! He teaches music through a structural perspective rather than by the more traditional method of learn a note here, learn a note there (I haven't played the piano since I was a child, but I still cringe at the memory of the tedious and monotonous scales, finger exercises and simplified classical pieces I used to have to play). Alex's lessons are anything but tedious, and, even though I am essentially a beginner (having forgotten everything I learned as a child), I feel like I am well on my way to having a deeper understanding of what I am playing because I have a developing understanding how it works. I feel like I am learning the language of music through total immersion rather than by the textbook method of learning how to read the notes. I now listen to and hear music differently, and there is much I am learning on my own. I am especially pleased with the way Alex tailors my lessons around what I want to do rather than what he thinks I should do. As a result, I am learning to play jazz piano rather the stuff I was forced to play as a child (unless I want to, of course, in which case he would teach me that). And the best part (as if it could get better)? Alex is so enthusiastic about what he does that it is contagious and makes working with him a sheer joy. There is not much I look forward to and enjoy more than my lessons with Alex. Needless to say, I highly recommend Alex Balmaceda for anyone who is interested in learning more about music than simply reading and playing the notes.
He's my cello teacher. I'm a beginner at cello but have extensive music training and experience. Joseph is a very skilled cellist. He's classically trained but is proficient at a variety of styles including hip-hop, jazz, etc. His teaching style (for me at least) encourages breaking down the parts of playing to focus on specific techniques, often assigning exercises that require patience but can push me to the next level. He has good feedback for me and lets my interests drive the program. When I had minor complaints about the workload, he took the feedback well and quickly enacted adjustments. His schedule is a little chaotic during the summer since he's a working musician but he's always punctual and communicates (mostly through texts) responsively.
