FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I dont want money to be a factor in my teaching. Yes it is important, but I have never turned down a potential student who didnt have the means and was eager to learn. I never will either. I try give a lot more time for each lesson and most go over the standard hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Meeting with my new students for an initial overview of what my program is all about is our first step. I demonstrate the tools and ask a lot of questions. Each student is unique in their own way so understanding what motivates them is one of the pieces to the big picture. Our first and second year students are the future of music. Whatever it takes to build desire and motivate my students to stick with their music education for 3 years, I will do. After the initial meeting I can design a preliminary plan. This outline for a six month period gives the time lines and puts an easy progression of exercises and familiar song list together. I cover all the details in our first and second lesson.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a list of Educational achievements upon request. I started reading music at the age of 4 and started lessons from my mother who was a piano teacher. When I was six, I started teaching my mother so she had me study with a music professor at Berkeley until I was 8. Then my father found my greatest teacher Leatha Wayne in the bay area. I studied with her while preparing to play with the San Francisco Symphony. When I was 13 I decided to move to Iowa for a year and studied with a master of Beethoven Sonatas and learned an amazing amount of theory from this well known pianist that year. Then back to the Bay Area to start High School and played the trumpet in the jazz and symphonic bands. Went to several colleges looking for the right music department to get my masters degree. Iowa State and San Jose State had the best programs for me at the time. I have performed for thousands and won several competitions. Music is my passion and my greatest skill so far! Teaching brings me the greatest Pursuit for happiness.
