I recently used Ruchi’s makeup services for a photosession and was very happy with her work and quality. She did a soft glam makeup and hair styling. Ruchi was very professional and responsive and would love to use her services again in the future.

This is not the review that Ruchi wants. But I felt that my experience needed telling. Admittedly we didn't do a rehearsal because mine was a low key wedding in Tiburon. We should have but we had had a phone call that I figured should be fine for a good make up artist. But, firstly, I asked for a special ocassion make up do- she quoted me $180. Then when I told her it was for my wedding, she upped the quote automatically to $350 which I managed to get down to $300. When I asked her why, she told me that she uses better make up for a bride (perplexed, I challenged her- do you mean that for $180 I would get bad make up?). Then she told me she does a veil, and helps the bride put on the dress. And that she's highly experienced. Ruchi brought her daughter, who did my friends' make up. They were on time which was good. When Ruchi started doing my hair in my bedroom (not in my bathroom where I requested, she insisted on the lower lit bedroom with no close up mirror so I brought my hand mirror out to see progress), the first thing she did was make my eyes look like they were bruised- purple like I had been punched. I asked her to remove it. Then we settled on some smoky makeup, but it was very overdone, and not even on both sides, and the smokyness she was putting not at the base of the eye but all over which doesn't suit me. I had also asked her for fake eye lashes but thin ones. She gave me very thick ones that she thinned out a little. I survived the makeup do (but you can see big marks of blush show up in my photos so it was very uneven). She hurriedly did my hair...kind of like the picture I gave her of braids, but not thick enough braids. My friend gave them some suggestions to fix it, which they did. It did look nice in the end. And then when we needed to put on the dress and do up all of the buttons, at that point she lost interest and wanted to do some social media films/ and photos for her site, get paid and leave. EVEN THOUGH I had paid the extra for the $300 job to get the dress. I had no veil so she didn't do that (plus my friends make up). My friend had to step in and do up my buttons and put the tape on me in the car on the way over as she wasn't able to do the tape properly. Then, once we were almost done, she started instructing me like a circus animal to pose for her videos. I wasn't even ready with my jacket or shoes and I needed to touch up the eyes myself. And apply lipstick. When I wasn't posing with my train to her satisfaction, she asked me to hold it higher. At that point I flipped out, annoyed that for the extra $ she had not cared about how happy the bride looked, only for her social media photos, to get paid and get out. I snapped and told her that I wasn't a circus animal and I wouldn't pose for her when I wasn't ready and our Uber Black was arriving any minute. I honestly felt that her daughter did a better job on my friend than she did on me, and I was the bride. As it was, I had to put more tape on on my way to the venue. I honestly felt that I should have done my on own make up. My eyes were overdone with the lashes that should have been thinner. I left stressed but at least I had my hair done and I got to the wedding on time, and I did get complimented. But I just don't think I got a good job and value for money and it was a good experience. If we'd done it in the bathroom and her daughter had of done my make up, maybe a different story.

Details: Birthday party • 45 - 64 years old • I'm flexible • False lashes • 2 people • My home, venue, etc.
