About
Dealing with pain or limitations from old injuries or surgeries, and want more than temporary relief?
If your back, hip, knee, neck, or shoulder pain is getting in the way of doing what you love (whether that’s hiking, playing a sport, or living an active lifestyle), providing you with long-term relief and supporting your return to the best version of yourself is what I do as a neuromuscular therapist and trainer.
Sessions are in-home and combine 90-minutes of orthopedic-informed movement coaching and soft tissue recovery techniques that help reduce tension, improve mobility, and support full-body functional strength.
Most clients feel a significant difference in their first session, but our real goal would be to build the appropriate strength, mobility, and body awareness needed to sustain the benefits long-term.
Message me with what’s bothering you, and what your goal is. I’ll let you know whether I can help and what I recommend as a starting point.

Nicky’s treatment therapy allowed me to stop taking pain medications for my lower back. Nicky is a very knowledgeable therapist with a deep insight into how to treat the body’s issues with a variety of techniques i.e. message, stretching, resistance exercises and a host of other paths to healing. I’m grateful for the treatment and information that I received from Nicky and highly recommend him as a source of relief and preventative health.

I feel fortunate to have found Coach Nicky at the right time, and can't say enough good things about him. I was dealing with recent trauma to my back, several chronic issues to various joints, and a 48 year old body with 20 unwanted pounds on it. I had previously struggled finding a knowledgeable wellness professional able/willing to tackle my complicated set of limitations.
Nicky listened attentively, then methodically guided me on a path that I was having difficulty finding on my own. His unique approach using various modalities including targeted massage, stretching and strength training was tailored specifically for my unique situation. He is an active listener with a thorough understanding of the body, he is confident but humble, and comfortable to be around. Do not hesitate to seek out his assistance in guiding you towards the better version of yourself that you know you can be.
The only negative, is that Nicky left Hawaii....and is no longer available here on Oahu. Good luck in San Diego!!

I started working with Nicky last summer after suffering decades of back, hip and shoulder pains that were limiting my athletic abilities. At every session Nicky took the time to ask about what I was feeling, then methodically examined and treated the root causes. At the end of every session, he provided guidance on simple and effective exercises to help with strengthening and flexibility. Nicky is truly very dedicated and an incredibly compassionate therapist.

Recently I have been having issues with my joints and muscle, particularly my right shoulder. Raising my right arm greater than 90 degrees was very difficult without causing pain in my shoulder and my upper body workout was getting very difficult.
One day I saw Coach Nicky Macaluso’s flyer for assisted stretching and sports massage and decided to sign up for an initial consultation. Although hesitant at first, after my initial consultation I was very impressed and comfortable with him. So I signed up for 2 months of sessions.
My sessions usually started with sports massage & assisted stretching, then on to learning self-stretching and exercises to strengthen smaller muscles I never knew I had. We started with my shoulders and by the 4th week I was able to raise my right arm 180 deg without pain. Week 5 we moved on to core and legs, by the time my sessions was complete I felt stronger than I have been in a long while.
Coach Nicky has a great knowledge of the human muscular anatomy and has the ability to really get in tune with your body. He’s taught me a lot about my muscular anatomy and my work out routine. With the tools he has given me I am excited to see how much further I can improve in the next 3 months. Beyond helping me feel less pain, gaining strength and flexibility, he has greatly improved my quality of life
After sessions with Coach Nicky, I have change of perspective on coaching. If you have a joint and muscle issues I would highly recommend Coach Nicky, I am very happy that I did.

After a few years of bad habits and a lack of proper exercise, I decided to join my local gym and get back on the health and fitness track. I wanted coaching, guidance and supervision and was ready to work with a coach. My goals were straightforward - lose a few pounds, improve muscle tone, feel better overall, and make health and fitness a sustainable part of my routine again as it had been for many years prior. I also wanted to respect my age (60 when I met Nicky) and acknowledge my sore shoulders and lower back. I was paired with Nicky because of his expertise in recovery and physical therapy.
With Nicky, I learned the real meaning of focused breathing, slow controlled full range of motion, and the importance of stretching, massage and recovery. I wish I could say that my stretching habits are where I want them to be, but I'm working on it. Ok, I'm working on working on it! Nicky truly helped me re-establish my own mind-body connection through mindful intent, thinking and focusing on every repetition as opposed to simply cranking out reps and sets. Every time I do something physical that results in an ache or pain, I picture myself having a conversation with Nicky to figure out what caused it, and consider adjustments for moving forward to avoid a recurrence.
During my first session with Nicky, I was surprised by how long we spent talking about my health and fitness journey, my bad habits, my self-assessment, and my goals for moving forward. He wasn't just learning about me to be sociable, he was figuring out how to use his knowledge, skills, abilities and gifts to meet me where I was, and determine how to help me help myself get to where I want to be. A wise and sagely strategy for someone so young. He genuinely and intentionally connected with me to help me. I know he looks for that connection with each of his clients and it is that approach that sets Nicky apart from other coaches.
