Introduction: I have many years teaching a wide range of ages, cultural backgrounds, musical genres, and levels of interest. My teaching experience includes working at a pre-college K-12 afterschool music program teaching violin and improvisation, giving chamber music masterclasses and lessons at universities around the country, performing as a member of the AIM program as part of the San Francisco Symphony’s Education Department, and most recently teaching private students, chamber groups, and group classes at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp. I attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where I recevied my Masters in violin performance under the tutelage of Bettina Mussumeli. Before that I attended the University of South Carolina School of Music, where I received my Bachelor's under the tutelage of William Terwilliger. My teaching philosophy focuses on developing mental and physical awareness, highlighting the strengths of the students, and curating achievable plans for reaching personal goals. Students learn best when immersed in concepts from a range of dynamic perspectives, hands-on exploration, and improvisation. Learning music conceptually, by observing and imitating experts, and eventually through self-creation is a powerful tool kit for development. Improvisation provides a springboard for synthesizing presented ideas and manipulating them in individually unique and expressive ways. Regardless of interest level, background, skill, or age lessons will be tailored to suit your needs.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge 80$ for 1 hour, 60$ for 45 minutes and 45$ for half an hour.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First and foremost is the well-being of the student. Violin can be deeply rewarding, but if a student is feeling negative about their playing or the musical abilities then my goal is to cultivate a feeling of empowerment and optimism. Second, the lesson is for the student, and as such my intention is focused on building rapport and understanding the learning style of the student.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been teaching violin since the age of 16, and have taught all ages and many types of musical genres. Please see my bio for a more detailed description.
