Matthew and his crew did a great job repairing our retaining wall and driveway/sidewalk. He kept in touch with us consistently to confirm the dates/times his crew would be on site, explained the work clearly, and left behind a tidy jobsite. Highly recommended.

Richard helped me design and remodel some features of my home before selling. Richard has a great eye for design and is able to construct as well. Richard and his team poured a new (black) concrete driveway, built me a new lateral cedar stained fence and painted the exterior of my home navy blue. This lead to a quick sale above asking, Thanks!

Our yard was quite overgrown: weeds in the flower beds, vines growing up one of our trees and grass growing out between the concrete on our side path. We hired Quintero Landscapes to tidy things up and they did a great job. Pablo and his coworker were here most of the day and the yard looks great.

I ended up interviewing 10 different contractors for our exterior siding job because there were so many different opinions on what needed to be done and how best to do it. I'm so glad that we ended up going with Kris and his team. Great communication throughout, incredibly high quality of workmanship on a very difficult job (it is an older house that hasn't been maintained very well before we bought it). I really appreciated Kris' attention to detail and letting us know what was going on throughout the 6 week long process. Also did a great job working with the county inspector, which is never an easy process. These guys are pros - won't hesitate to hire them again for our next house project!

We were thoroughly satisfied with the concrete work done by Kris Fredrickson, Anderson Construction’s concrete contractor. Our new driveway and sidewalk look great. Kris listened to us and did his best to accommodate our wishes, going above and beyond. We would definitely hire him again and recommend him to others. And Mike Anderson stayed in constant communication w/us making sure that we were satisfied with how the project was proceeding.

Marco is the best ! A very professional job done! The concrete side walkway was so well done and we had many neighbors compliment the work. We also had him redo some old concrete on the side of our driveway and create a brick flower beds. He went out of his way to find the right brick to match the existing brick. The brick flower bed is amazing looking. His staff worker is a perfectionist to make sure all bricks were level and connected perfectly to our existing brick. His suggestion to level the sloping concrete makes it better easier to walk in the area. He did such a great job, we asked him to help us improve our patio in the back. His pricing was very reasonable and the quality of the work exceeded our expectations.

I wanted to expand my driveway by 100 square feet. I talked to a few contractors and some came out and gave a bid and others blew me off. Mario was different from the rest. He set up an appointment with me for the next day and he showed up on time. He quoted me a price which I eventually accepted. We set a date for him to do the work. He called me and said he could do it a day earlier. I said great. He completed the job in two days and it looks great. His workmanship was very good. He took out 6" of dirt, put in 1-2" of gravel and pour 4-5" of concrete. He matched the expansion joints up with the existing driveway and it looks great. I would heartily recommend Mario. From my experience I would say he is honest, trustworthy with high integrity.

They did a good job. My expectations were probably a bit high as the stripping that was first done was not the super thick crisp lines you see in store parking lots. Sam did have his guys come back out and fix all the issues we had without any argument and even cut me a great deal on the removal of old asphalt along with concrete and dirt that they don't recycle.

We called Mark to look at some driveway work - removing old steps and adding new ones in a different location and paving over the old area as well as helping the steep incline an easier transition. He was very responsive and sensitive to what we were looking for and our schedule. We had to pause the project for almost a year due to some city issues but he was patient and ready move as soon as we got the go ahead from the city. I highly recommend his work and he has a lot of contacts for various needs.

I would Highly recommend Jim Folan and James Gang Construction. I had a new home purchase that needed Kitchen Counters, Windows, Demolish a Garage and concrete pad, Building Fences. Jim's matched my lowest prices, communicated very well and very quickly, gave a lot of good advice. Very versatile guy. I had a couple of complaints along the way, but Jim responded to them immediately with professionalism. I plan on hiring him again.

La Zucena Landscaping company exceeded my and my husbands expectations even though we are both extremely picky when it comes to exterior design. We have worked with this company in various occasions: -Demolition of sidewalks and driveways, planter boxes; Segundo and his team did the job extremely fast ,leaving no mess and ready to install the same day. -Installation of new paver driveways and walk; August 2014.Segundo gave us the brilliant suggestions and ideas and it turned out looking so magnificent ! I love coming home and seeing the most beautiful entrance to the house in the area!We got 4 estimates and La Zucena beat them all with the best offer, I searched and checked his contractor license at Contractors State License Board, all license, bonds, workers compensation insurance and liability insurance, was okay. -Retrofit all drip and sprinkler system; This was the friendly suggestion of Segundo and his team and the green area in front of our house now looks like glamorous park!High-teck sprinklers time set. All of the sprinkler heads water the grass and plants and not the pavement or neighbor's yards. The type of head is appropriate for the use and will help conserve water but still provide the proper irrigation. Segundo set the timer appropriately so we never had to adjust it again, even though he took his time and explained to us how to adjust it in case we needed to. Love it!!! Everything was done at very professional manner. -Planting new plants, trees and flowers;Again,Segundo and his team added life to our garden! The best choice and the most sophisticated flowers. We even got the peach tree J! -Installation of a new gazebo for hot tub -Jacuzzi area; Our Jacuzzi area was absolutely ready to be replaced for the new one. We tried getting some reasonable options to update it but the prices in the area were extremely high even just for replacement of the tiny roof above the Jacuzzi. Segundo gave us the free estimate and drawing design and we couldn’t believe that it could be all replaced (not just the roof) ,with the new wood details and colors and all for the fracture of the price for only replacing the roof. We took the chance. Had nothing to loose for the price. It turned out to be our favorite place for family hung out, especially in the summer. -Remodeling and adding new fences; The best in the area and the most reasonable price. This just enhanced the overall beauty of the house. I have to give the credit to those amazing guys for our house being easily recognized in the neighborhood for it’s own unique alluring landscapes. I also have to mention that their prices were the best in the area especially when they’re compared to the quality of the service! But what I liked most was the customer service we received from Segundo Lojas and his crew. Their expertise and professionalism made us feel very comfortable working with them. They showed up on time every day the work was scheduled and didn't leave until the work was completely done. Their punctuality, outstanding prices and professionalism make this company stand out among the rest . The crew worked quickly and efficiently, making sure everything was done to perfection and they always did a great job of cleaning up, leaving everything spotless. Thanks Segundo! You have a loyal customer! We will definitely recommend them, and we’ll be calling them again for other jobs we have planned. Couldn't ask for a better company to hire.

We had an epoxy floor project for our kitchen started by a concrete contractor that did not go well. Statewide came in and fixed the floor in inly five days after we'd spent six weeks trying to get it right with the original contractor. Tyler was responsive, thorough, timely, neat and professional. We would use them again in a heartbeat.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

      What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
      • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
      • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
      • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
      • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
      • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
