Our senior dog was wandering near our pool and Heather rushed right over to put her back behind the gate so she couldn't fall in. This dog is 17, can't hear and can hardly walk. I was worried about leaving her with a pet sitter but I now see how dedicated Heather is and I am much less worried now.

Heather came out free of charge for a meet & greet with my german shepherd & she was great. Received a lot of great information. She has a wonderful personality, very caring towards animals in general & off the back, you can tell she knows her stuff. I look forward to working with her on my dog.

Brandon has been taking my dog Andre out on dog park outings for several months now. Andre is a bit reactive but Brandon took on the challenge and has figured out a way to get Andre his exercise and manage his reactivity as well. I like that he gives me reports on their outings and also mentions health issues that he may notice. He gave me great advice on a new food to help ease Andre's itchy skin too! He's very reliable and if there ever is something that comes up where he needs to miss an outing I am always given plenty of time to make alternative arrangements. Most importantly, Andre loves him!

My husband and I have been working with Gabby for several months now and could not be happier with the dog walking services she provides. Our dog Dexter absolutely loves her. Dexter always returns from his walks happy and tuckered out. Gabby is professional, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. She responds very quickly to emails and phone calls and has been invaluable in helping us train Dexter to pull less on his leach during walks. Thank you Gabby for all you do for Dexter!

Chris worked our Lab-mix, Zoe, to stop her habit of jumping on people. Chris is professional, observant, and patient. And, most importantly her training is based on kindness. She was able to assess both Zoe's and our particular needs and worked accordingly to help us. Throughout our session Chris took her time not only teaching Zoe, but also teaching us. And, Chris has given us further support through a follow-up e-mail checking on Zoe's progress. With Chris's help we are well on our way to success!

I walk, feed, clean, and bath dogs. I sit dogs at home. I have 10 years of experience. I worked for the shelter of San Jose and Vac Rocker Hospital.

We can walk your dog for $15 an hour. Also, for very energetic dogs, we provide a dog running service for $20. We pick up your dog and at pickup, you can request any additional services like pet sitting, washing, or grooming.

I do dog walking. I hope its good because this is my first time walking someone else's dog.

I can watch your animals at your house if you need to do errands. That includes play time, of course, and walks, and I'll feed them. I'll follow what you need done correctly. I'm a teen on independent studies.

I have been a dog sitter since 2005, with a lot of great references. I am a Bay Area dog whisperer. For more info, just Google Be My Barki.

My services include dog walking, animal companionship, pet sitting, feeding and bathing and grooming. My bond with animals make my business great!

I am a new dog walker. I started with my brother's dog, walking him around, so that way, he wasn't cooped up in the backyard. So now, I want to walk other dogs that want to go walk around and no longer be sheltered in the backyard.

Are you taking a little trip and don't wanna leave your pooch in a kennel? Do you have a busy work schedule but still want him to get the exercise that it needs? I've got you covered for all your puppies' needs. I have great experience with dogs and flexible hours.

I am a dog walker in the Concord/Pleasant Hill/Walnut Creek areas. I have three young children who come with me in the stroller. I prefer to walk smaller dogs.

I stand out from the others because when I have to leave someone to watch my pets I want them to be safe and happy. What I love most about my job is caring for new pets and making new little friends.

Animals are my absolute favorite. Some people call me an "animal whisperer" because I know how animals are feeling when interacting with them and what they want. I own two dogs myself, a German shepherd and a Chihuahua, and they mean the world to me.

I can and have walked dogs professionally. Walking is great for everyone. I have also been a foster parent for many animals, including Katrina dogs, cats and horses.

Are you a busy person who has a pet that is constantly energetic and is interfering with work? Well, worry no more! Tails and Trails provides a low-pay dog walking service at your exact address for just $20 an hour! Come and choose Tails and Trails as your amazing dog walking service!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
