I had a good experience with Safe Moving for a recent, in-state move of about 200+ miles. The movers were very polite and hard-working; they got the job done in one full day, and worked very diligently and quickly. Furthermore, Safe Moving attended to (and repaired at their cost) a piece of furniture that got accidentally broken in the move very promptly and courteously. Finally, the cost of the move was very competitive and fit my budget. I would recommend Safe Moving to a friend or family member.

There were some minor hiccups along the way, but Larro's got the job done for the quoted amount even though it was a long (in-state) move.

Great communication and very flexible when we thought our moving state might shift. The team was very efficient and nothing broke throughout the move. Moreover they were generous in helping with unexpected tasks like moving a small camper trailer out from the back yard. Hopefully we aren't moving again soon but if we do, will call Albion!

Working with Frank was an excellent experience! He answered all of my questions ahead of time, and with one quick call had my move scheduled. All I had to do was open my door on moving day. He and his crew were very professional and made sure to wrap and protect my furniture. They handled all of my belongings with care and were super quick. Frank definitely made moving out of state less scary. It was nice to know that the "moving" part of moving was the easy part. Thanks, Frank!

I brought the Junk Project in to clear out about 1/2 truckload of furniture, household goods, clothes, shoes, etc. that I did not want to move from my old apartment to my new house. They were the last step in my moving out process and were prompt, polite and efficient. I was able to turn in the keys to my apartment within an hour after they left!! I would highly recommend their services.

After a brief phone conversation with Kyle, I learned more about what movers are and aren't allowed to do per state laws in regard to charges. His knowledge was impressive enough for me to go ahead and schedule my move. I had spoken to other companies but learned some of them were going to charge erroneously. On the day of the move, he called to say they were on the way. They (Kyle and James) arrived and started getting right to work!! They carefully shrink wrapped my furniture pieces and loaded up the truck. They worked in unison and really tried to stay within my budget!! At one point, they even took a very heavy potted lime tree up to my neighbors' house for me!!! Without a question. I was really wowed by these two young guys doing such a great job! You should really consider them for your move and I bet you'll be just as impressed as I was!! I'd hire them again in an instant!! I so appreciated all of their help and them too... They even filled my storage space so well that I can get to almost anything in it and it's all neatly arranged!!

Great communication and feedback, responsive to our needs, reliable and took initiative to diagnose and repair the problems of non-functioning kitchen lights, outdoor sconces and doorbell. These qualities were especially important since Cody had to work on a rental property i.e., liaise with busy tenants and coordinate with us, the owners, who live out of State. Recommended. Good value. Thank you.

I called them to get an out-of-state moving quote, they beat everyone’s prices, I was being quoted 8000 for this move which was out of my budget. And I’m so glad I used JC services, my stuff arrived on time the next day in Oregon and I was able to move in right away.

Moving! There was 3 of them I remember Devon David and Sohil amazing guys. I was moving to a different state (Texas) from California and they did a great job. Because it was out of state they rented a box truck! They did a full service that’s what they called it which was packing my house which was 3 bedrooms. They had packed everything. For me and my family. And unpacked everything to! They also took things to the dump! Wasn’t expecting that at all. They wrapped all of our furniture. With blankets and took great care of it. They changed me a base to show up and a minimum for the pickup and drop off like 3-5 hours I don’t remember then charge by miles. If I had a choice I would use them again!

Very nice people, nice company, reliable. Go for it. I went with a dedicated truck option and I don’t regret it. Never used a moving company in the states, only when I move here from France. I highly recommend. Both, they were so charming and helpful, as they transformed a “scary moving” in a smooth operation… Perfect move !

I hired Pat for a move from Fontana, CA to Berkeley, CA. He was incredibly kind and professional from the very beginning. His rate was significantly lower than anyone else. About a week before my move Pat was even able to lower my rate more because he found another customer moving to the same area so he could combine the moves making it cheaper for me. Not only did Pat exceed my expectations financially but he really went above and beyond his duties! I couldn't be present for the move because I had to go out of state for job training so I had to trust him completely to pick up my belongings from Fontana and deliver it all to Berkeley without my supervision. I didn't have the apartment keys to where I was moving in Berkeley so Pat even picked up the keys for me from the rental company and made sure they were delivered to me. I arrived in Berkeley from training an entire month after the move actually took place. I entered my apartment to find my bed already set up by Pat and my boxes organized. Nothing was broken ether which is something that always seems to happen when I hire movers. I have never even met Pat in person because I had to leave for training. I was only able to correspond with him through email and phone calls. For this reason I can say he is extremely trustworthy and I trusted him with all of my belongings. If you need to move then definitely hire Pat. I have moved a lot and I have never had a better moving experience.

I was moving out of state and very new to this. Planning all the moving details was so stressful until i contacted Robert. He was proffesional, responded to all my questions and showed up in good time for loading. They worked their magic and in two hours everything was in the truck - Sigh of relief. I was not present when he delivered my stuff on the other end. We had made arrangements for him to get keys. He left everything where it should be and assembled the heavy stuff - how nice. I was very pleased with Robert's proffesionalism and he gave us the most reasonable quote. I would definitely use Robert again. He is a man of few words but he gets the job done.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
